Any one living near Portsmouth?

I am from Southampton and livedi n Portsmouth for Uni and since then I have also lived in Fareham for a year. Portsmouth is your best bit and just like any cities has some crummy places, but southsea as a whole you really cant go wrong.

Fareham is a bit quiet and can also be a little more expensive to rent with less house shares around.

Plus there is only one awful venue in town which shuts at 1am due to a fight breaking out the other year. There are however many pubs which are quite nice.

Portsmouth is very flat aswell so if you will be looking at train journeys look at getting a bike to cycle to the station.

By the looks off all the people we need a fareham/portsmouth meet

Born and Bred! 30 years, although have been in Southampton for the last 7.
If it's near Hayling Island, then Emsworth is a much posher side to Hampshire than moving the opposite direction to Pompey. (depend on how old you are though, as it's an expensive old people area)
Cosham has some very nice areas but will get progressively worse the further you move towards the Hospital aka Paulsgrove.

Waterlooville Purbrook, Horndean are pretty suburban and nice, (where I grew up)
Havant is a bit hit and miss unfortunately because of LeighPark, which is essentially a humongous housing estate.

I'm moving back to Pompey in 2 months, and shall be looking at North end. Close to the motorway, easy access in and out, and not quite as dense and full of chavs.

I dated some sket down there for a while, I rather enjoyed the area, get of the train have an argument with someone, talk to some crazies then go to her house, was pretty cool.

Think Fareham is probably the furthest away I want to go. Currently commute from Coventry to Birmingham and going by Google Earth/Google Maps Fareham to Lockheed is a bit shorter, but looking at other places too. May have to take a trip to Cosham, love a good chippy!

In that case, as others have said; Emsworth / Rowland's Castle, would be a nice place to live (if you have the cash). Personally I'd look at somewhere around Langstone, or Hayling Island. Not so good for the social aspect, but some nice areas, close to the sea etc.

What company is it?, as I work right next to Hayling Island at Langstone Technology Park, trains are OK from Fareham to around LTP.

Never go to gosport it's cheap for a reason and full of navy families and the subsequent navy morons who go with it!

I commute from Haslemere, Surrey to Pompey centre it's only 35mins on train and it's not in Hampshire so win!

To repeat myself from earlier, when were you last in Gosport? it's changed completely over the last 5 years. Some areas in it are cheap, others are nowhere near cheap!

I lived in southsea in my early 20s and its ok if you want to go out a lot and live like a student, I have a family now and live just outside portsmouth in Denmead which is nice and quiet.

The only bit of portsmouth I like is the old town bit and Gunwharf. The rest of it is a dive.
