  • $300 installation fee (waived if a 2 year contract is signed)
  • Free Nexus 7 tablet (used as the remote for your TV)

Internet

  • $70/mo
  • Google Fiber (1 gigabit internet)
  • $300 installation fee (waived if a 1 year contract is signed)

FREE INTERNET

Wow, you can record 8 channels at once... "just because you can", and the DVR has 2 TB of storage. Pretty nice!

I really like this move by Google. Even if there are few ways to max out a gigabit connection (even your HDD could be a bottleneck before the connection) with any luck once it starts to spread there will be the potential for new services which may have been previously ignored as not viable with current infrastructure, but with this new Google infrastructure there could be loads more possibilities.

VM have also already trialled 1.5Gbps on their network to see how it would handle the traffic with good results and that's without fibre to the home(Very small closed trial though)

Not sure to be honest. That's just what I heard internally however my understanding of coax was that it had a maximum bandwidth of 200mbps but vm have definitely managed 300mbps in a trial in Milton Keynes. It's probably using something like DOCSIS 5 :)

Technology is constantly changing so who knows what is possible?

I think they were bonding a gazillion channels to achieve 1.5Gbps. And it was probably total speed for everyone (one user?) on that segment.

Yet more PR fluff from the morons who have let marketing control engineering.

All in the name of serving up ads faster. Wouldn't say no to gigabit internet, Google can show me as many adverts for stuff I am not going to buy as they like

O_O Very shocking to see it isn't being rolled out in the UK too. I'd love to see more competition going on inbetween different ISPs and what they have to offer and give to their customers when Google become a mainstream ISP. Everyone (or almost everyone) will cancel their contracts once valid or eligible to. I certainly would too. :D
