Euromillions

You've missed the point of what I was saying.

I pointed that in a raffle, you do not increase your chances directly proportionally for each extra line you buy. Someone replied saying that effect is minimised though they more tickets that are sold, hence my reply was simply saying that whilst that is true, it also makes the point of "doubling" your chances more futile at the same time as double of 0.0001% is still extremely unlikely.

Nevermind

It's still unlikely, but it's also still practically double.

For 10,000,000 raffle tickets sold your chance of winning with one ticket is 0.00001%. If you buy two tickets (so 10,000,001 in total) your chances of winning are 0.00001999999%, so not double the chances but you increase your chances by 99.9999% - which is pretty much double. Also, I'm fairly sure there are going to be a lot more than 10,000,000 lines sold, closing the gap between 99.9999% and 100% even further.

The original point that if you buy 10 tickets as opposed to just 1, it increases your chances by ten-fold is pretty much correct.

Practically != Exactly.

Jeez, I was only pointing out the difference in mathematical probability between the normal lottery (where you do double your chances from going from 1 line to 2) from a raffle system.

I think people are reading far too much into that post now.

Seems daft, why didn't he do it online I wonder? Checking all of those will be a right pain in the backside.

I think you can only do £300 or so online in one week or something. Still, should have done most online and rest @ shop.

I bought 10 tickets, but I won £8.40 on Fri and £8 on tuesday from £6 of tickets, So some of those are covered from my winnings.
