I am getting a 3930k, I need to choose a motherboard by Thursday for various reasons. I am looking for a all round good motherboard that isn't that expensive, I will be overclocking the 3930k to about 4.2Ghz. In addition I would like to RAID 2 SSDs with the onboard controller.

Any suggestions?

I dont consider £170 as being cheap, the UD5 has the full eight RAM slots and includes a WiFi/Bluetooth card.

I'd go for the UD5 (£240), either that or stretch the budget out a little to the RIVF (~£279).

The P9X79 is also a good board (£206) but its all kinds of ugly :D

Tbh even the lower end boards will manage that OC on air as you are only heading 400mhz over the turbo of the 3930K.

Its up to you bud, if your budget allows it I'd go for either the UD5/UD7 or RIVF/RIVE, if you want to save some pennies then look at the Extreme4 & UD3 :)

All above mentioned boards (and the others) will do what you are asking.

More than happy with my Sabretooth

although with two 2 1/2 slot GPUs i cant use my Asus Xonar as the pci slots are covered :s

What about the p9x79, I hear that the normal p9x79 is better then the pro in some areas, is that true and are those good boards?

Also, how does the Intel chip fair at RAIDing SSDs?

Afaik RAID is down to the chipset (X79) not the chip, so on the RAID side of things all the boards should be just about equal.

Usually on Asus boards outside of the ROG branding (Pro/Deluxe) the only differences tend to be the amount of connectivity (sata/USB ports), the amount of phases and some extra peripherals.
