the $440,000,000 codeing error!

Don't some databases stop you running a DELETE command if you don't specify a WHERE clause or did you just WHERE 1=1?

No :) There was a backup thankfully, so we only lost that days transactions, which was about 30,000 records. Got a major *******ing and an insta-written warning though, all for forgetting a WHERE clause.

Ah that old chestnut, everyone does it at some point. I once made a similar mistake when cleaning up a linking table and I put "EXISTS" instead of "IN" in my WHERE clause. Cue the whole system breaking and me running round in a panic to get a backup asap :p.

$440 million?

Pretty worthless overall id say, the only interesting part of this is the arguments for and against auto-trading, with this blunder.

Good thing what you say isn't correct then! The article states that the "lost" monies is enough to wipe out any profit Knight made in 2011 and seriously affect its future.

Somewhat important I'd say!
