Olympic Athletics

Are we on target or still likely to get the predicted 48 medals and beat the 47 of beijiing?

I don't know about the predictions but as of yesterday Team GB had 8 golds while in Beijing at the same point it was 3 golds. As of tonight there are 14 golds and 29 medals in total but all the rowing is done now and quite a few of the cycling events are also finished. There's still plenty that could happen to mean we don't exceed the total but I'd say Team GB is in a fairly good place overall.

Obviously the comparison is of somewhat limited worth given that at a particular Olympics you might have athletes who are great at a certain event but they've retired/are injured/are just not in form at the next Olympics but broadly speaking Team GB's strengths from the Beijing Olympics are still there in London except perhaps swimming where you might argue there have been a few less medals than expected - that said it's not been that the British athletes have performed especially badly, more that other nations have really stepped up their game.

They should hold Sports Personality of the year inside the Olympic stadium. They would easily fill it!

Actually, is it an event the Public can go and watch?

I have to admit, living in London I was fuming when the Olympics were first announced as ultimately I've been paying more towards it than others in other parts of the country. However, I eat humble pie and stand corrected.

This evening alone has proven a total success. Our country needed this, it couldn't have come at a better time.

Perhaps this will help restore some national pride many seem to have lost.

Been all over the world and i can honestly say GB is one of the best places to live.

Awesome seeing a country come together, so proud.

I feel so insignificant now :( She literally can't achieve any more with her life other than maybe doing it again (but that's just repetition), while I'm sat here drinking a beer resting it on my pot belly.

Is 22 too late to become a heptathlete and get a gold medal?
