Just received a graphics card which I bought on ebay from the US.

Had a nice big custom fee and even better, the back plate is badly bent making it impossible to install. The seller said he had the original box but it arrived in a fairly small amount of bubble wrap.

Should this be easily fixable?

You'd have to speak to the seller about returns and refunds, could just bend the plate back into shape with some pliers?

I would take the backplate off and see if the card even works first.

Was it in any anti-static material or just bubble wrap?

It was just bubblewrap.

Bit ****ed off due to the custom fees and I paid more than the actual postage paid as well.

It is very mangled and there is a very small dent in the pcb at the same corner.

Is it possible to buy a replacement bracket ?

I'd be sending it straight back to them to be honest, there's a good chance it's either going to be DOA or issues will creep up with that sort of damage.

just unscrew the backplate if you can and bend it straight with some pliers, wrap it in a cloth so not to score/scratch the backplate

It does seem quite bent. It would have to be quite an impact to bend the plate like that. Was the bubble around that area damaged? If not then shenanigans

I didn't notice anything wrong with the bubble wrap but there could have been. There is a tear in the box though.

It wasn't very well packaged, lots of empty space in the box so I imagine it got thrown around a lot.

I've contacted the seller and will wait for him to reply before trying to bend it back/remove it to test the card. I found an evga high flow bracket which I could use as a replacement but I'm already out of pocket as it is >_<

I would remove the backplate - you should be able to do this easily. Plug it in and test if it works. If it does then bend the backplate back and re-attach and then test heavily for a few days.

Then if it's problematic return it. If it works then keep it but push hard for a postage refund.

I agree with this. It might actually work, but you need to thoroughly test it to ensure it's not going to die on you a few weeks in.

But yeah, plug it in and see if it works before doing anything rash. And if it's broken, you should definitely demand postage costs to be returned because it definitely isn't your fault it's arrived like that. Make sure you take a few pictures from different angles of it in it's current condition so you have proof of what state it arrived in.

send it back with a bill for customs as well i would not accept that at all

I'm guessing he actually wants the card though as he bought it? Which is why I suggested testing it thoroughly before accepting it.

I guess much depends on the price. Are you likely to be able to pick up the same card for the price you paid again? If so then you could return it and wait for another card to arrive.

If it works ask him to give you a partial refund so you can buy a new bracket.
Also i would never buy pc components from the states.

First off, it CAN happen during transit if there is not box around it?
Secondly, it's not the senders fault the buyer needs to pay tax for importing. A workaround is to ask if the seller wants to put the value on the box as 25 dollar... works every time I do it here in the Netherlands...
Just use some pliers and straighten it out, I've done it before and it was no problem :)

Good luck with whatever you are going to do with this, but it is the risk of ebay...

seller has responded and said its okay for me to try bend it back. he also said he will give a partial refund.

been at it for a while but still can't get it to fit into the slot fully. it's so bent of shape its unreal.
