GaymerCon: Everybody Games

Guys like to broadcast they are straight for some reason, I have a few straight mates on FB and they are always announcing **** and sharing pics of random girls on their timeline, getting quite annoying now, removed their activity from my news feed.

Just sayin' :p

Personally, I'm in agreement with most of the people in this thread, just go to one of the other cons.

I don't see why there's a need for this. I don't care what sexuality you are if I'm playing a game with you. If you get offended by my gay lisp (probably how you talk) then so be it. I'd probably be offended if I saw you bumming other men.

But sexuality is a non-issue in games. I just don't get it.

Fenris hit the nail on the head, methinks.

It's just stupid. Another minority trying to be mouthier than anyone else.

It's like having all Alcoholics Anonymous members wanting to sit at the same table away from everyone else at a party.

You have obviously never seen or been to a Blizzcon. They are far from it. I not a huge fanboi of Blizzard, in fact I'm losing interest in their games rapidly. But Blizzcon is an awesome event very well put together.

it was a joke about blizzard being gay. i have not been to blizzcon but have been to gamescom a couple of times so i think i am pretty well informed :P

This has never been an issue in gaming for me, but this weird thread has conjured up a number of strange images in my head.

Something along the lines of most people slugging it off on a battlefield or whatever, while a small group minces off into the distance doing the Foxtrott in modded tutus.

Or do they actually play VoIP going something like: "Ooh ducky, do be careful. There's some big strong men coming at us from the hill over there. Don't they look magnificent!"

I mean, how else would anyone even know?

Can't help it, just the way my mind works, hearing this sort of nonsense.

legendary quote right there.

surely segregating yourself is discrimination and prejudice against straight people? I want a straight only games con now!!!!!

I lived with 2 gay guys who were seriously dedicated to gaming (more so into retro games, but also rpgs etc) and were subject to a lot of abuse over chat in the communities they were part of. I guess it's just a place they can feel confident, and probably get laid too :P

Like someone said, you only know that if they start saying it down the microphone. Fair enough if they say "Are you gay or something?" but even then it would just be an average kiddish argument that you see online all the time. I've been given abuse for being ginger online before but you don't see me trying to set up gingcon.

Then you also have to think does **** like that ever happen at these conventions? Probably not. Gays would be the last thing I'd be inclined to throw abuse at with the amount of people with targets on their back you get at these conventions :p.

Lesbians are already awesome enough, why they feel the need to have an event full of them playing video games I'll never know, I think its a cloak & dagger crusade to overload our minds with win, exploding them, and thus eradicating the heterosexual from the gaming scene.

Smart, but not smart enough. I'll be the only straight guy left in a scene full of starving gamer girls, don't worry though lads I'll take one for the team and repopulate the cyber earth single handedly. It'll be a tedious task but I'll do it!

I'm really not sure what difficulties the Gay and Lesbian community experience in the gaming/geek world or even why your sexual preference would make any difference. I can understand other things where discrimination becomes a problem but I have never experienced discrimination like that in the gaming/geek world.

A world which is pretty accepting to even the most bizzare of persons (I mean look at some of the geek-like deviants online!)

because just like in life, online there are people who just can't handle it.

Same with the conventions themselves.

They want a convention where they can dress and behave as they want without having to worry about people pointing fingers, staring, muttering under the breath, being abusive etc..

If you're fine with people being gay, great. Lots of people aren't. (myself not included, i just have gay friends and witness they prejudice they face regularly)

1. Forum discovers that there may be a gaming event for the gay community.

2. Forum thinks there isn't a need since sexuality isn't an issue when gaming.

3. Forum spouts a load of gay stereotypes which show why this event has been created.

Considering the number of booth babes which appear at convensions, I would imagine the subject of sexuality comes up quite regularly.
