Hey all

My girlfriend and I have managed to get a house to rent and most of our questions have been answered. This one I was wondering on the way to work.

They guy has both Sky & Virgin lines already put into the house. What would the steps be on getting set up? and what are peoples preference between the 2

How long would it take for me to get set-up for the internet. I am away the day we move in but the missus is there while I am gone.

I was wondering if you could give some advice because I might get her to set it up while I am away ready for my return :D

(wishful thinking)

Took me about a week and a half to get Virgin to set me up here, which I thought was speedy. The engineer was very nice and talked me through it after he'd installed everything (about 30 minutes to an hour) - but it was very simple so your girlfriend (pics) won't have any trouble. I even got the connection fee free. It's been great so far. I have no idea about Sky, sorry.

Simply look at their bundles, decide which one you want and then give them a ring.

Congratulations for finding a place!

What is with this forum always wanting Pics? Thanks btw we have been looking around for 3 months or so. The landlord is great - reduced the bond, reduced the rent. Also he is letting us pay for 1 weeks rent and then start at the begining of the month for easier payment.

We move in 2 weeks. I suppose if it takes a week or so I am sure I will be able to live

Make sure the landlord properly registers your bond and provides documentation for it, and make sure the properties certs are up to date too. Gas etc etc.

*Edit*

Who called the grammar police?

^Yep, check that your security deposit is being held in the Deposit Protection Scheme.

Also, when you do the inventory walk-round note every existing stain or blemish.

Me and my Girlfriend have ....
I was wondering if you could give some advise because

MY GIRLFRIEND.

And secondly, you can give advice (the information), or you can advise someone (the action of giving the information). At least you got 'wondering' correct, that's unusual.

Some of us like grammar police.

There are numerous small errors in the opening post, if you really have to go all grammar hammer then you really should clear it all up.

look whos got the best deal really. i went in the virgin shop and signed up there and then and got an engineer to come around the day i got the keys!! was done in 40 mins and was up and running

He has assured us that he will only see the deposit once and then it will be the last time he has anything to do wit it until we both sign the documentation at the end of the tenancy.

I think I will go and see what deals we can get and try and get an engineer in the day I get back after the weekend.

But if one of us corrected the whole thing (including the actual structure) what would the rest have left to play with? :)

Just for the sake of the thread, I'm on Virgin. It took two weeks to install & has only caused issue twice in a few years.

Take pics of all rooms and furniture (if not yours) together with all meters (gas, elec, water) .... just in case you need them in the future.

Good luck in your new home.
