Can anyone here not ride a bike?

My girlfriend has got no confidence and hates riding bikes

+1

If there was an emergency, id ride one, but not out of choice.

I just do not feel safe on them and have never had the confidence to ride on the road. I leant in a field and thats about it.

I've done all this with her.

She was so happy when she managed to pedal, now it's gone down the line of fear again, I think falling into nettles didn't help.

I hope you took advantage of the opportunity to have some intimate time with your gf while you applying medicines on her bruises :D

You do realise that a number of us rock climb as a hobby, right?

Yep. What part of 'virtually' do you want defined exactly.

The fact he thinks he is the best means he wont be. I'll wager that there is someone better, then there will be someone better than them as well. Pointless statement

Which is why I said 'virtually' or do you just read what you want to.

I can ride a bike with no handlebars, no handlebars, no handlebars.

Hope no one else wrote that yet, cba to look.

I learnt to ride a bike when I was 3 and throughout my teens have spent way to much time and money on bikes.

I used to be quite a good swimmer but now I am just of average ability, probably due to only swimming on holiday.

I can just about ride a bike but have such bad balance I wouldnt dare ride on the road. Wish i did have better balance as i think downhill biking looks great fun!

Cant really swim either!

I guess I could (I haven't ridden a bike for about 25 years), but if the saying is anything to go by I'm sure I'd be fine. I wouldn't want to though, not out of a lack of confidence in myself but in other road users. Seeing how some motorists treat cyclists I have no inclination to do so.

The bike riding thing didn't last for me as a kid though, had a set of roller boots and skated everywhere instead. As I found out earlier this year, I can still skate too :)

I find people not being able to swim far more of a big deal than them not being able to ride a bike. Swimming can save your life, do people who can't swim spend their lives avoiding walking anywhere near rivers etc?

I can ride a bike fine, but cannot swim. Had countless lessons, but there's something about my body which makes it completely non buoyant.

Swimming is especially important. You never know when it could save your life.

My gf cannot swim..freak! Irrational fear of it, me, i was in the pool at 3 swimming. I love the wetness in general..but not ALL watersports :-P

So you're saying the girlfriend objects if you try and get her wet? :p :D

Can't swim to save my life - would love to though, might save my life one day. My body has zero buoyancy; lay on back = start sinking. :p :(

I learnt when I was about 6, dad took me to a car park, and it went from there.

After that I was out on my bike all the time as a kid.

As for swimming I think anyone who's half-intelligent can swim.

Wow, a lot of people here that can't either swim or ride a bike.

It's worth pointing out that swimming is harder to pick up and generally takes lessons to learn. It's certainly worth learning to swim though, I carried it on up to a national competitive level so swimming is a great pleasure for me. It pains me when I go on holiday with my gf and we can't share the same experience in the water. She can swim breaststroke and backstroke but looses all confidence and panics when she can't stand up or reach a wall.

Riding a bike on the other hand can be learnt in a couple of days. How can anyone not be able to ride a bike?

I'm an old git and grew up in the 1960's-70's, so didn't have many of the distractions of the modern era. :p

Cycling and swimming were basic skills at that time. If you couldn't cycle and swim by the time you were aged ~10, you would be known (using modern nomenclature) as a faggot.

Yes I did but one well away from water and bicycle shops however I would wager I can climb better than virtually anyone who is registered on these forums as that was what I spent my childhood doing.

That is fair enough. I used to to do rock climbing in my late teens/early twenties at the Cow and Calf Rocks in Ilkley.

What is the highest difficulty of climb you have undertaken?

I can't ride a bike either. We used to live on a busy main road so was never taught as it was too dangerous to just go cycling about.

You don't have to learn to cycle on a main road. Just push your bike to the nearest side road or dust track and learn there.
