PC Upgrade

I currently have an Athlon X2 4400 dual core and was looking at a budget upgrade, would a Pentium G840 be a step up?

What other Intel cpu would be better than what I currently have?Main PC use is internet and video encoding

Yes its a good upgrade (bear in mind it needs a new motherboard too and most likely RAM). The G840 gets pretty much 2x the score the X2 4400 does in CPU benchmarks.

He'd need new RAM for sure, he's on DDR2 at the latest.

4GB basically (its actually a bit lower) its not the starter edition you have?

If I remember correctly Xp 32bit is a tad unstable on 4GB.
