Firstly, I know there is an Olympics sub-forum, but I want the opinion of everyone. The sub-forum will obviously be biased.

Now that the Olympics has ended, I was wondering what the general consensus is as to how it went against your original expectations from a few months ago. Can a passing mode setup up a poll please:

- I thought it would be rubbish, it was rubbish
- I thought it would be rubbish, it was average
- I thought it would be rubbish, it was good
- I thought it would be average, it was rubbish
- I thought it would be average, it was average
- I thought it would be average, it was good
- I thought it would be good, it was rubbish
- I thought it would be good, it was average
- I thought it would be good, it was good

This is for the Olympics as a whole. So it includes everything from, the results, the transport, the volunteers, the park itself, the coverage, the opening closing ceremonies, the atmosphere, everything.

Personally I thought it was going to be good, and I was not let down. I thought everything about it was fantastic and I was gutted I didn’t get more time off work and more tickets last year.

Considering how our media like to cry out and make a fuss over anything mildly negative, during the two weeks I can only think of a few things that made the news in a negative light – all of which were completely un-newsworthy

  • Security staff being replaced with the armed forces – who ended up doing a fantastic job
  • Empty seats – was only a problem for the first day or two, and half of that was down to silly IOC rules about the ‘family and friends’ areas
  • A lost set of keys at Wembley ....
  • The inability of people to get tickets – yes the website could have been better, but there was never going to be a way of selling the tickets that everyone would be happy with, and the demand was far outweighing the supply

I thought it would be average, it was good.

What made it even better was the fact that I actually got to go. I loved the whole thing but being there in person made it even better.

It was fantastic.

The venues were great, the volunteers by all accounts were fantastic, it was safe and secure, Team GB excelled themselves, the public got behind it....

Phenomenal couple of weeks :)

The TV coverage was out of this world, I watched it with a Sky box, but I believe it was exactly the same with any digital box. Via the red button, if you so chose, you could watch every second of any of the sports that were taking place.

Just a brilliant fortnight and I think it's left the nation with a very positive feel.

You have a poll.

I expected it to be good, I thought it was excellent.

For the last seven years we've had to put up with a bunch of idiots going on and on about how bad the Olympics would be, how we'd mess it up and how we'd end up being the laughing stock of the world.

All this time I've been saying the opposite. We know how to put on a good show, I think the last two weeks have been utterly fantastic and mesmerising and as far as my household is concerned, every other broadcaster except the BBC may as well have shut down for the last fortnight.

I hope the people who were saying how bad it would be are eating humble pie now.

It was really good! I was quite surprised, GB done really really well, I was surprised at everyone before the Olympics saying "Yeahh not really fussed, doesnt bother me, wont be watching, couldn't care less" actually get gripped at the whole thing. Everyone embraced the games and became patriotic and really supportive of TeamGB which was nice.

I thought it would be good, it was actually great but given the options I've gone with good and good. Despite a few slight niggles (ticketing being the main one) it has been for the most part organised well and with the minimum of unnecessary fuss - I thoroughly enjoyed the Olympics and I'm delighted I got to go to a home Olympics. I think overall it has been a resounding success.

Especially after Beijing's Opening and Closing, when London's show came out, it was a little meh! That could be said yesterday about the Brazillians, but who knows, I might be surprised again.

Anyway, I am happy everything went without any major hiccups and I am proud to be British with such an amazing Olympics. Not just the great coverage from the BBC, but also the spectators and volunteers, making this such an event worthy of the world's audience.

Today, it feels so empty without Radio 5 Live in the background whilst some sport was happening. Back to the mundane and listening to the drone of Big Brother among staffs... *YAWN*

I knew it was going to be good and it was just fabulous.

Thanks for the poll, and I agree with your sentiments entirely.

Thought it would be average, was average.

It hasn't really created any great excitement amongst most people I know and work with, all the supposed tourism benefits seem to have been a complete flop with a great many businesses having their worst two weeks of trading in years, with even things like the dedicated Olympic festival in Weymouth shutting down early due to a complete lack of interest from the public.

It was a reasonably entertaining two weeks of TV but didn't really 'inspire' me or anyone I know beyond 'Yeah did you see the 100m last night? Pretty good wasn't it?' "Yeah, not bad". There's usually more excitement when there is a big Premier League game on midweek.

As for 'Inspire a generation' maybe it will, maybe it won't but from the sheer amount of money we piled into these people to win medals, I think a better motto would be 'Throw enough money at something and you'll probably win'.

Give it a year and I think overall opinion will be a lot lower, once people come off the high and realise we have to pay for all this and the 'legacy' is nothing more than some increasingly disused sports facilities.

Even worse are the people who left the country saying, "haha, I'm off while you lot all suffer, it's going to be a nightmare".

Best two weeks I can remember in the capital. A lot of people missed out through nothing but old-fashioned cynicism.
