Taking the plunge. Please help me spec.

Hello all

Lurked a while and decided to register as I've seen how helpful some of you are.

My old system is really biting the dust now. It's positively creaking under the strain of what I'm using it for.

I'm heavy into photography and fully expect my next DSLR to be pumping out 30mb+ for each RAW image I put into my library.

I already have decent Nvidia graphics, an IPS display, keyboard and mouse.

I need help on the brain and guts now. I'm a little behind the game in terms of the tech available since I've gotten old and creaky myself so I'll ask you; the kind contributors here, as to what you think I can get, for the biggest bang, for around the £600-£800 mark.

I need the MB (future proofed slightly?) I'd like to have a respected SSD for the OS and packages such as Photoshop and Lightroom (latest editions). 1TB HDD & 16Gb of RAM.

I really appreciate your suggestions/laughter if it's not possible. Thanks in advance.

cm silent pro is rated 408w on the 12v, depending on his gpu, the sm silent pro may not have enough juice

and i was underbudget, so, yeah, decided to spec a fancier case...lol...or could go for the arc midi...enough in the budget to play around

Arc mini. :)

Ahh, didn't realise. Thanks for that. Would a higher juice PSU be better, like a OCz 550W, or the CX 600w?

Thanks so much for the replies. Really, very much appreciated as I've been tearing my hair out on this.

I will probably need an OS, but I might not as a friend may be able to help me out, so I'm assuming Win7 Ultimate 64 due to the high RAM requirements?

My current GPU is an NVIDIA GeForce 9400GT 1GB. Which I assume would be fine for photography? I'm not a PC gamer but will have need for full HD video editing/rendering on occasion as I like to make timelapse movies.

So do we think this will all work together as well as with my GPU (NVIDIA 9400GT 1Gb)? Is it worth investing in a new GPU?

Sorry, I don't know how to post it all nicely like you guys!

Yeah that will work.

Looks solid.

If you wanted to add more RAM later, then Windows7 home Premium can only address upto 16GB, you need Professional or higher for more.

Need 16GB? else take 8GB and upgrade to R4 :)

Basket tools in my sig.

EDIT :
I'm heavy into photography and fully expect my next DSLR to be pumping out 30mb+ for each RAW image I put into my library.

Oh well, I suppose you need that 16GB. As for the PSU :

Will the Xigmatek Asgard Pro case be big enough to house the Cooler Master 612S?

I tried to find a black or grey Fractal R3 case but they seemed to have completely disappeared off the site. They only have white, which just won't do!
