Hate to be the guy, as i have used VPN before without issues, however when Valve updated their Subscriber Agreement last week it now forbids the use of VPN to unlock games in your region early or to purchase.

'You agree that you will not use IP proxying or other methods to disguise the place of your residence, whether to circumvent geographical restrictions on game content, to purchase at pricing not applicable to your geography, or for any other purpose. If you do this, we may terminate your access to your Account.'

Why we can't have it at the same time baffles me.
When this is changed we will not need these methods as steam calls them.

I'd imagine the types of people that use VPN's to get games early are also the types that if they can no longer do this will just illegally obtain a game instead and wont bother to buy it

Not necessarily. I considered using one(though didn't in the end) because I am off work this week, going back on Saturday, so a VPN would allow me to play it whilst I was off, otherwise I will only be able to play it on Friday night before going back.

I do usually wait though. This is the only game I have ever considered it for, for those reasons.

Anyway, there was nothing wrong with doing it. Why wouldn't you get your game a few days early if you could with no comebacks?
 
Yeah it's a shame that Steam have added that into their SSA. Again, like someone mentioned, what if someone is using a VPN for something completely legal? Steam will decrypt the Sleeping Dogs files, and then if you switch the VPN off Sleeping Dogs will still work as the files have already been decrypted.

That's what happened to me today;)
 
I have popped steam into offline mode now that I have the game working. If I log back Into steam without the vpn will the game not relock ? Sure it did when I VPN,ed Dead Island.

I VPN'd Ghost Recon: Future Soldier and unlocked it with VPN, logged out and turned off VPN. Logged in and it let me play.
