Virgin Media Discussion Thread

Is anyone else getting really rubbish service recently?

Everytime I try load a page it will often hang for a few seconds, takes a few retries to get it to work :(

And online gaming hasnt been very good recently either

Awesome.

Wow...

When the "double speed upgrade" for Virgin broadband was announced, I was given a predicted upgrade time of June.

Now it says December... It's further away than when it was first announced!

The best connection I have ever had is around 3mb in my entire life.

Just booked to have an engineer to come out when I move to my student house for 100mb connection! Going to amazing :D

Just ring up and politely ask to be put on the upgraded speed.

Cite you're unhappy and that if you were a new customer signing up today, you'd be receiving a faster speed for the same/less price you're currently paying (if this is the case obviously!)

They can't argue this point and quite frankly, if they do, they'll make themselves look very foolish :p

Hello

Got a question and I wondering if anyone else has had a similar experience.

I order Virgin 100mb on the 3rd of June and was given an installation date (22nd August 2012 between 1pm and 6pm) they said I might see someone before then putting a cable from my house to the Box at the end of the road. Anyway today (15th August) I happened to look out the window and there was a guy with a reel of yellow Cable pushing it into the ground, I assume it was to the box at the end of the road. I looked back a few minutes later and it looked like he was having troubles pushing it, after a few more minutes he pulled it all back out and they jumped back in the van and off they went.

Looking on the internet I think it sounds like there maybe a block in the ducting under the road and that they would have to get a construction team to unblock it, reason im asking as im getting a bit worried after reading some of the horror stories how long this can take as my current internet stops on the 23rd a day after the virgin internet is suppose to be installed. I might be over thinking this and getting myself stressed over nothing.

Anyone else had a similar experience and did it take long or push back the date of the installation? Or if anyone who works for virgin on these forums could let me know whats next.

The yellow thing was a cobra (like a giant cable rod).

They don't actually pull the cable all the way. They usually pull it to the bottom of the garden and leave it in the tee ready for the installers or they would coil it up in the closest pit to your house.

If the duct is blocked it can take up to 10 days for construction as they have to get permission from the council.

Easy way to tell is to check if they have marked the pavement anywhere as that would be the indication of where the blockage is

Oh ok

So the Yellow cable I saw isnt actually the cable I will be using for my Internet its just used for pulling a cable from the box?

wtf is going on with VM. Yesterday I had connection interrupts on maidenhead servers for quakelive, but my pings were still 22. But on euro servers, there were no interrupts. Right now though, I'm getting 170 pings on any server. I just did a speedtest and my usual 5 to 11 ping is over 88 ping and my download speeds are around 8mb/s instead of my usual 60.

Sounds like utilisation because of an over subscripted area. VM cannot handle their network and their equipment isn't even classed as standard: It's behind and poor.

Go 100mb BB

Are Virgin having issues awinchurch? I'd be inclined to say it's utilisation otherwise as at 7:40am it was up at 104mb consistently. It's only the nights around this time when it's up and down and generally all over the place :p
