BMW (E85) Z4 Coupe

I think part of the premium over the roadster is the fact that the coupe is a lot rarer, oh and much better loooking! not that my Z4MC makes me biased at all..... :D

I have been running a 09 for just over a year now as my everyday car covering about 12k a year. I do really enjoy the car, its fast, practical, looks nice and it is comfortable. Running cost wise I have tracked how much it has cost me here. As you can see, £11k in 14 months running costs which seems quite a lot on the face of it, but I don't think you will get anything with this level of performance and age for much less.

In terms of driving the 3.0si engine is a absolute peach. Its quite a bit of torque low down the rev range (For an N/A) and the cam change at 4k rpm makes pushing on more enjoyable. Handling wise it can be a bit of a handful when you are really pushing it and the ride is very firm (due to run flats). This means it can't really be exploited down bumpy b roads as you don't have the confidence to really chuck it about. Get it on a nice smooth road though and it is a very rewarding car to drive, even if the steering is a little to numb for my liking.

MPG wise I get a solid 30 on my 40 mile round trip commute which is a mixture of A and B roads and some town driving. I did however do a 320 mile trip a couple of weeks back which was 95% motorways and cursing at 70mph I got 40mpg out of it which I thought was very, very good.

So overall I think it is an excellent car and at the price you can pick one up for now it is a bargin :).

The piano black dash is the only thing I wanted but didn't get with mine. I've got brushed aluminium and black leather.

I paid £14.5k a year ago from a BMW dealer.

That looks great, love the wheels.. Mines ruby black and is hideously difficult to keep looking clean.

Cheers. Black looks amazing when its really clean though. I'm slowly working around mine with a DA polisher, only done the bonet and roof so far.

I've replaced my roundals with black and white ones as I thought the blue and white stood out too much on the grey. I've not done the wheel badges yet. May get a matt black grill but I'm a bit undecided on that at the moment.

My foglights are condensated, but most of the Z's I see have this, I guess its a design fault.

No, that is the PH website not showing it correctly. First year was £1400, second was £840 and BMW warranty is £440. That is how it got that figure. Plus the figure appears to have been averaged over 14 months, not 24.

The tax figure seems high too....isn't the car tax £200-something a year?

My jaw hit the floor at £2400 insurance, glad to hear that's an error :)

I also own a coupe, I love it :)

Had it almost 1.5 years now.

Running costs are pretty decent for a car of this caliber.
Oil service (own oil) and brake fluid change next week at BMW is £130. That'll be it for another ~15k miles/2 years.
Insurance = £500 @25
MPG = 30 on B roads. Little more on motorways.
Tax = £265

Ride is pretty rough, but switching to non run flats will help.
Only problem I've had is a cracked rear spring, which I replaced myself for £80. I haven't bothered with a warranty so far, I haven't seen many problems which I wouldn't give a bash myself. But I may pick up a 12 month one before I hit 60k (price increases substantially), currently on 40k.

As everyone says, z4-forum.com is the go to place for info.
