Final Fantasy 7 Re-release

But on the other hand you've paid for something that's broken that you can easily fix :p.

Edit: Wait, have you bought it?

Nah not yet, but I really really want to. I am disappointed in it though so think I may pass, I probably had unrealistic expectations to be honest.

Yeah the music is no big deal now since it is easily replaceable unlike the old PC version which required a bit more effort.

I think what's really important overall is that this a version that ****ing works on modern PCs! Could it have been a better job, sure, but this what matters! :p

That is true. I do have the original PC version somewhere, never dug it out to try playing it on this machine though.

If you wanted the game to be even better then you would paying more for it. I think 8.00 gbp is a fair price for what they have done.

Have they made spells skipable? Back in the dayon the psone my mate showed of the old king arther/knights of the round spel, very impressive but took an age to run through.

It's still the same exact game, so no skippable summons.

If anything was changed ingame then that actually means Square Enix made an effort to do so! :p

MIDI? MIDI??

Ah well at least I have the following to soothe me :p

Please tell me where I can get this. :o

I personally do not think they have done all that much. Is £8.00 a fair price? Possibly, but I feel biased towards saying it is purely because of my memories on how epic it was/is.

Good job on their part making it playable on modern PCs but really that is all they have done, surely it wouldn't have been very difficult to implement better audio? Feels like they're just trying to take advantage of peoples nostalgia.

I bought mine from ebay years a go :p

I think they'd have been better off just packing the ISOs from the original game into an installer and just letting people mod it the way they want, maybe including the updated FMVs too and releasing it for 4.99. I run Windows 7 64bit and to get it running all I had to do was install K lite CodeC pack.

I do too but I find that it was still all too random. Sometimes it will work fine, sometimes it doesn't or it is a combination of both.

Sometimes the FMVs will still play and you get sound, but there was still the black screen problem. Another is the upside giltch. The codec that they used for the FMVs is just old and obscure now. KLCP can sometimes fix it or doesn't.

And depending on the graphics card you have, you needed the 1.02 patch to get Hardware Acceleration to make the game actually look good. Software Renderer was crap no matter what.

Even in this new PC version, you can run and see the difference on Software Renderer mode if you wish by ticking on Original Graphic Mode. It just produces so much colour banding and pixels are more apparent on the character models. It really is poor.

been playing this for a few hours now.

Using the ps1 music / 360 controller works out the box

Cant complain 8 quid totally worth it even for nostalgia
Does what it says on the tin.

FF VIII next please

then the entire series Bahaha one can hope

Does the D-pad work for anyone using the 360 controller because it doesn't for me?

Yeah sure it works out of the box, but not everything is working properly, includes the triggers as well. I resorted to using my PS2 pad via USB converter and it does a better job anyway.

I won't be surprised if they do FFVIII next. It was a much better port than FFVII so hopefully it will be an easier job, though they'd probably end up with MIDI music again.

I am glad the d-pad does not work on the 360 pad (not tested mine tbh, not ready to play this just yet, need to finish Enter The Matrix), the 360 pad has one of the worst d-pads in the world.

Yeah the D-Pad is crap but would still work much better than the analogue stick for an old game like this.

I find the analogue stick to be a bit too sensitive to the point that I can't pick the right menu commands properly and the cursor keeps on spazzing out.

ah yeah, I can see how that could be a pain. Weird how the stick and pad don't work together. I guess you could get around this with xpadder. I guess they made it to sensitive like you said.
