Sleeping Dogs

all third person games always feel a bit clumsy to me with keyboard+mouse

fighting is going to be no different to with a pad
driving is going to obviously feel bit more on/off
walking/running around isnt to bad i dont find myself constantly running into objects but i'd imagine it beeing a lot easier with a pad.

ill stick a 15min viddeo of me messing around on youtube and link it here when its uploaded

actually ill just link it now so i can go play some more :D
it should be uploaded and processed in about 20minutes

Just downloading this through Steam after getting it from GMG with that cheeky 20% code.

Sorry to be a pain, but I am a complete noob when it comes to unlocking games early on Steam via a VPN. I have never used a VPN before so if someone could offer me some advice that would me much appreciated. Apologies in advance if this has already been explained elsewhere.

Thanks.

I used this mate: http://www.flyvpn.com/freetrial

Download the software, login using their free trial account (on that page above) and choose one of the American servers.

Steps:
Open FlyVPN
Log in to it
Choose a US server (wait to connect)
Open Steam
Unlock the game.
Exit Steam
Exit FlyVPN (and thus removing your proxy)
Open Steam.
Play game.

That's pretty much it. I did have a problem on my first attempt though (IO error in steam), so had to re-download the whole thing. Has been fine since.

no worse than gta iv was with kb/m

I would say it's slightly worse.

The fact the camera is constantly trying to correct itself (face forward) when you're looking around.

Also, the mouse moves the character direction too. I just want it to freely move the camera and the character movements can be done on the keyboard.

These type of 3rd person perspective games always play better on gamepad imo, they're pretty much built with gamepads in mind. Acceralation for instance in vehicles is either on or off when using keyboard, whereas the analogue sticks of the 360 pad allow far more control over in vehicle acceleration and walking/running pace when on foot.

GTA4, Assassins Creed games, Batman, even The Witcher 2, all played better on the 360 pad imo. Found Max Payne 3 to be slightly better on mouse and keys but also felt pretty good on the pad. 360 pad with wireless adapter is my choice when gamepad is required, I also find using a gamepad less fatiguing during long sessions than mouse/keyboard.

Did you need to keep the proxy on while playing it?

Ohhh man the stuttering is really game breaking for me atm it's so bad. Windowed mode is smooth as butter but I can't play with borders.

I tried what someone suggested above but the problem still persists, it's so frustrating when you have an expensive rig and a game runs like ass.

I have only got to the market bit at the start where you gotta get cash from stalls and honestly I'm enjoying what I've played so far but man that bit is where the issues got extremely noticable.

I really want to play more but until a workaround or fix is put out this game is going to have to be shelved for a while.

try turning all the settings to there lowest and if it goes away turn them all on one by one until you find out which is causing it?

i think the devs said the extreme fxaa setting isnt really meant to be used on todays gfx cards.

i dont get any suttering though on a 6850 even if everythings maxed my fps just drops to around 30-40 depending on where i am

BTW, your not confusing the retarded shaky cam when your moving fast with stuttering are you? hopefully someone finds out how to disable that crap
just did the first race

Incase ppl forget TB said that nvidia havent got a chance to optimise it yet so wont be great on nvidia cards yet just amd. He spoke to someone at nvidia and they said they will optimise it but as to when who knows. Probably in a beta shortly or the next release im guessing.

I have the FXAA setting on normal, I'm quite suprised actually that there isn't an off option as I don't tend to have AA on in games due to the res I play at.

Also I'm aware about the shaky camera thing however I couldn't even make it far enough to drive before giving up.

Thanks for this, I had a sneaking suspicion that it might be driver related, /sigh.

you can force FXAA off
Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\SleepingDogs\Data
edit the display settings file and change <AAQuality>0</AAQuality> and
<SSAO>0</SSAO> to 0

although its unlikely to make your stuttering go away

Not sure if it will fix your problems but reading on Neogaf people reporting 1gb update.
