Googled it and did get one or two answers but i would have expected more, some people were even surprised, i guess it's just dead skin/bacteria/old shoes/old socks etc, but even if i've just washed my socks and am walking all day the stench of ammonia sometimes can be overwhelming. It's like somebody has dipped your socks in ammonia/smelling salts.

Er, no. If your socks stink of ammonia you probably need to see a doctor.

I wouldn't really say it was the same smell, it's basically smelling salts smell, or a pig pen.

I would call it more of an ammonia smell whereas chlorine tends to have a sort of chlorine smell to it.

I can't believe people don't know what ammonia smells like! It's not like it's a forgettable smell :/
