Sky BB and using your own router?

Yes it is from what I've heard, although don't go telling everyone you're using it or you'll have a problem on your hands. I watched a video/read up you need to enter a password to link your router onto your phone-line so you can have access to the internet through your own router without any problems.

It makes it MUCH easier from a support point of view if you know they'll have one of only a few routers. Also it means they can pre-load all the login details onto the Router as well to save on calls helping to setup access.

But I dare-say only people who know what they're doing would change the router anyway.

of course but that is mainly down to problems with the sky kit or want better performance.

If you have to call support you just put your old router on or use it to test the problem.

Is there any way to put a Sky box (Sagem 2504) in bridge mode to use its modem only, and have all the routing work done by my proper router? I've a Buffalo WZR-HP-G300NH that has gigabit LAN and 300Mbps wireless going spare...

I have been doing this with BE for the past 5 years and have just moved into a flat that has a Sky connection.

Just plug it in and disable wireless on your old (sky) router.

Make sure you disable DHCP on one of them. Have them on the same subnet with static IPs. Stick the Buffalos in the DMZ on the Sagem. Turn off wireless on the Sagem

OK got it all done now. Took a few hours but got there in the end. Performance has increased noticeably, as the WZR-HP-G300NH running the latest DD-WRT build is a nice, usable bit of kit.

never had a problem with the sagem 2504n sky sent me, syncs solidly at 24mbps.

i've got a dg834gt but i see no need to use it? sky dns is fine, too.

I can't complain about the sync speed the 2504 gives in my new flat. However, its networking features are badly out of date, hence the integration of my WZR-HP-G300NH.

I've the WZR-HP-G300NH set up to use Google's DNS servers which seem to be working fine.
