Hello Everyone,

I'm in the midst of shifting and will be building a new righ (ish) and would be grateful for opinions here.

I'm planning to get a desk with 60 cm Depth and was wondering whether I should go for a 27 or a 30. Will be maintaining an eyefinity setup but 2 monitors will be portrait mode. Well thats the plan at least.

Do you think a 30 inch Dell would be excessive?

Kind Regards,
SAm

My desk has less depth than that (52cm iirc) and I have had a 32" hdtv on it before for giggles. It was a bit excessive imo.

I have a 24" on here now which is fine but could go bigger without being overwhelmed. Maybe a 27" would be the sweetspot?

This is my plan, 2007fp? My desk is 80cm depth but I have the 30 incher near the middle of the desk, 60cm is enough and you can always push it right back to the wall. It took a week to get used to 30" because once you see it in real life it's HUGE but now it is the perfect size. My desk is also 2m wide so make sure you have at least a 1.8m wide desk and if you use proper speakers like me you need a desk about 2.2m wide for PLP.

Not much bigger than a 24" though and it's 16:9 ratio, good for movies but not for a monitor. That resolution is a little too small at 27" and it has higher input lag, not good for gaming. If you be patient you can get a good price on the 30" I got a cracking deal and saved myself over £300.

Thanks All - - re the 27's - I was thinking about it too as its substantially cheaper than the 30". But i have no idea as to what monitors I could possibly use as portrait mode next to it. But reckon 30" is fine for a 60 cm depth ye?

Nate - do you have a picture of your workstation uploaded in the rooms gallery thread?

I really like my u2711 i have it next to a u2410. U27 all the way. You need decent eyes, the resolution is fantastic though. A u30 would be ott for me.

Also id only go 27+ with 1440p

I think 60cm is too short. I Have 80 cm and I ended up going diagonal for 3 x U2410, i.e. from my build log :

When gaming is fine, but only just. I could never put them in landscape, nor do I wish to.

Modes of operation:

All 3 eyefinity gaming: 5% of time
All 3, extended configuration (linux) 70% of time
2 right most on linux extended configuration, 1 left most on Mac Mini (sometimes put Mac one into landscape, depending on work) 25% of time

8 hr day (weekday)

Edit: When I set this up, my main objective was for my head to remain still while my eyes roll around :D

This is 19-27-19 Using a Dell 1907FP, maybe you could go for that instead?

Mmm some very nice setups there chaps. I'll probably go for a 19-27-19 set up. They seemed to be aligned properly as well!

May I ask what you normally do with your right 19? I tend to have outlook on one side and bloomberg TV on the right. But with it being portrait mode...

Good point, cant really watch tv on a portrait. thats what i usually do with my right screen

Mmm - - Final Question Chaps - What graphic card would you go for to support this 27" in Eyefinity with 2 19's? I currently run with a 5970 and I believe I only have 2 DVI's and 1 mini display port.. :(
