Hardly a surprise. The FA make things up as they go along.

As far as I'm aware there isn't a precedent for replying to a tweet from a member of the public so in this case the FA have had to make things up as they go along ;)

Is it more acceptable to racially abuse somebody on twitter? If not then what difference should it make to their punishment?

And my comment about the FA making it up as they go along is not specific to this particular incident or race related charges.

Did he racially abuse anyone though or did he just reply to someone else's tweet? I'm not down with the ghetto lingo but is the 'choc ice' slang even racially offensive?

A politician was charged with and convicted of racial harassment for calling somebody a coconut - which is effectively the same thing as calling them a choc-ice.

Answering my own question it appears that in the eyes of the FA, making racially offensive, homophobic etc comments on twitter is more acceptable, given that several players have been charged with these offenses and only received fine (of varying amounts). Contrast that to getting a ban for giving supporters the finger or swearing down a camera.

I'd never even heard of this term.

It certainly sounds racist, but I thought I read it meant something completely different? Dont know and dont care though tbh, Rio was an idiot for getting involved full stop and that stupidity has seen him fined C'est la vie.

Rio gets away with it because he's black, so the FA are racist for giving him special treatment. Can someone now fine the FA and ban them for 12 games?

It's not completely different, it's still a pejorative, it's just one used within a perceived community. Regardless it was stupid and if the fa had decided on a larger fine or even a couple of games ban he wouldn't have had anyone to blame but himself.

So Liverpool are terrible!!

How can Joe Allen be worth £15m? This only goes to prove my theory of how terrible Brendan Rogers as a manager is. Look at the attacking prowess of Swansea this weekend, they looked very very dangerous going forward, something that they weren't allowed to do under Brendan.

When you consider Newcastle bought Cabaye, Tiote and Anita for £13.2m. I would personally have each one of them over Joe Allen!

One game and we're terrible? :o

I know it's early days of course! However I really cannot see Liverpool going anywhere with Brendan Rodgers. But.... I'm sure I will be proven wrong no doubt, as I'm terrible at predictions.

I still stand by Joe Allen not being worth £15m. Along with Downing being the worst piece of business in the history of the premier league, followed very closely by Henderson.

But his pass completion made most Liverpool fans celebrate to completion as well :p

Stat's ARE great, interpreting stats is absolutely critical, the past 3-4 seasons everyone just randomly throws out any stat to claim someone is great. Pass completion above the league average is what someone was banging on about Song in the press. Wow 85% compared to the league average 79.xx%. When 99% of his passes are 5 yards and don't help the team in any real way its a meaningless stat, last season the 50/50 stats suddenly came into play.... Carroll won 94.726580% of aerial 50/50's..... did any of them lead to a goal, did any of them go to a team mate, did any of them mean anything at all?

Allen is an uber passing stat whore.... but is he a good footballer, who knows, that's a completely different and entirely unrelated question.

Errm, there was the last 2 seasons as well don't forget, anyone would think Liverpool won the title last year and being pretty rubbish in the first game is somehow an entirely new thing.

Gerrard was pap because he's been getting pap for a few seasons. Suarez can't hit a barn dorn(unless its black? ) Carroll has girly hair, Hazard got more assists in 6 mins of this season than Downing got all last season, Johnson can't defend.

They do have one great player, he was fantastic in every game he played last year, never gave anything less than 100%, scored some great goals, set up some great goals, great driving the team forward, huge workrate and solid defending, Bellamy.... oh wait.

Realistically what Liverpool needed this year for sure but in the past two years, was a new Gerrard to build the team around, a driving attacking force, Gerrard used to be very similar to Yaya, in the past two seasons he hasn't been anywhere near that good. When you watch Liverpool, for a decade, its been Gerrard's team, and it still plays that way, and when Gerrard doesn't perform(which is more frequent every season) the team can't seem to perform. He needs to be maybe pushed out wide again, into a less key position so the team is less reliant on him having a top game.

Swansea are playing well because the team has some real quality, some players who want nothing more than to play hard and good balance. Rodgers hasn't rebuilt Liverpool, neither did Hodgson, KK came closest with the most spent but the fundamental spine was mostly the same, and that is what needed updating fixing for 3 years. Sigurdson, Michu, Allen, I've always said there are 4-5 truly irreplaceable players in the world. Yaya is one of the best players in the EPL, Barca threw him away for all but an untested youngster replacing him. Gerrard wasn't irreplaceable AT HIS BEST, let alone now, the team needs to move on and move up, and they also need to stop spending 15mil+ on basically average players.

Apart from the fact we have a better win % when he isnt playing you mean?

Yes the result wasn't the greatest, but it flattered West Brom. We will get tonked a few times this year as we get used to the BR style of play but I think we will also dish out a few hammerings aswell.

We really do need a striker though, a guy that can stick it in the net. Suarez isn't a number 9. Either play Carroll in the middle or get Jordan Rhodes in.
