A man caught doing 180mph in a police chase on the M6....!!

How much experience do you have driving at very high speed? I'm going to say.. not as much as me.

That's what I meant by "inexperienced". It's not arrogance, just simply highlighting to others the angle from which you are approaching this discussion.

The idea that I was doing "crazy speeds" is an interesting one. Why, if it was so crazy, did a system which has a fascination with speeding not even see it as necessary for me to go to court?

PS Relax, mods, xkcd is cool with hotlinking.

I'm aware of how kinetic energy works. Were you intending to add a contrary opinion to mine, or just state a fact?

No intention at all. I actually had stated a fact that contradicts your opinion. More the double the value of something increasing is a massive difference, rather than 'literally nothing'. :o

Were you intending to add a contrary opinion to mine, or just state a fact?I did not refer it to as my safe and unsafe threshold.I fly maybe 40 times a year - life is a wing and a prayer. What if any number of things might happen. The reality is, the frequency of these events is so incredibly low that the chances of it happening in a situation with slightly escalated danger due to speed is minimal.

Well it happened to me once, twice would be unfortunate!

Evidently we do not share the same opinion, and probably never will.

Indeed and thankfully I won't be spouting my vitriol as fact :)

Doubling the value of something might by a massive increase, but it doesn't stop the impact in resulting terms being 'literally nothing' ;)

I'd love to see the statistics. It's something people always wheel out in discussions about road speed, but as far as I can tell the chances of it happening on a well maintained car (i.e. appropriate tyre pressures, good tyres that aren't several years old etc.) are pretty slim!

I would have died at 100mph or not be walking is a big difference to where I am now in my life due to a 70mph accident!

Of course that bit of metal having to deal with twice the energy before it stopped moving would have had 'literally no difference' to the outcome below?

Nah just stuck to 1/2mv^2

The resting against a tree yards from the fenced edge of drop 20 foot to the road that goes under the M10 was enough evidence.

Wow!! what is this?.

i care enough about driving, safety and my license to stick to speed limits as i couldnt afford to lose my license.

is a 10 minute blast at 120mph worth the risk of getting caught by the police or hitting someone and hurting people?

not for me.

if your after a burst of speed, pay £100 and take it to the track.

i dont think you realise how fast 180mph is. all it takes for a major accident is for someone a half mile ahead to swap lanes when they didnt see the speeding bullet hurtling towards them. sure theres mirror signal maneuver but theres always blind spots.

yea there is safe times, places and cars for this kind of thing but a public road is not one of them. 180mph is crazy speeds

I can promise you this, if you've done 150mph, or 155mph or even 160mph, the difference between that and 180 mph is mind boggling, and indeed, feels far far more scary. Slowing back down to 155mph seems fairly casual

Fair enough, but you weren't in the best or safest of cars, and not one that I would consider driving particularly fast in on a regular basis!

If someone travelling at 70 swapped lines half a mile ahead and you were travelling at 180, you'd not exactly be unable to react..

I've done only bit less than 180 and yes, it does feel a fair bit faster than 150, but probably no more faster than 150 feels than 120.. you just get double the slowing down.
Grow up, and stop putting peoples live in danger.
You have bored me already. Do you have anything to add other than mindless comments?

at 180mph you are covering 3 miles per minute. 30 metres a second. If something happened anywhere within half a mile ahead of you that gives you 10 seconds to react?

You've done 180? On public roads?

Nice attitude, kind of matches your views on road safety
