It takes a lot more effort to go on a rampage with a knife than it does with a semi automatic sidearm.

And sick people get to use them because of how easily and readily available guns are.
 
You lot on about americas gun control issue make it sound like it's impossible to get hold of firearms anywhere else.
It's ridiculously easy to get hold of firearms in the uk, albeit not to the same extent of semi-automatic weapons found in the us, but if I needed to blow the arse out of something there's always nick the greek/asim ;)
It's not a gun control problem, or an american problem.

It's one individual who has gone bat **** mental.

Well no **** sherlock.

However one cannot dismiss the fact that its so easily available in the US that it becomes rather common to see this occur.

It's a fact is it, a cold hard fact, that as guns are more readily available in america the number of nutcases going shooting increases?

The easier it is to acquire, the less you would feel inconvenienced by acquiring it and doing the deed.

Its simply about convenience, it may not be applicable to most cases, but it seems like it would be a barrier to using such weapons.

Lets just say, if I could go to my local gun store and register for a G18 with hollow point ammo, the ease of doing so would likely make me more eager.

Now if the only weapons I could have were rather bulky (shotguns, varmint rifles, whatever is allowed in the UK), then I may as well just not bother.

Of course nothing would stop someone who really desired it, I am not saying that, that would make me seem stupid.

Though it does seem to have gotten worse in the UK in recent years, i remember that case where one of the authorised persons that can import weapons from the US almost got away with it, I forget what it was though.

Fair comments. I think it's possibly also down to the difference in population between the USA and here, and in this case the density of NYC is quite high in terms of people/sqkm*. I don't know what the difference in rates are but I suspect it his significantly higher in the USA.

I see what you mean about being more eager with an easier to handle/conceal weapon.

It's pretty obvious really. If you lose the plot and you already happen to have a gun (far more likely in the US where they are readily available) then you'll very likely use it, or as StriderX says it's far easier to go out and buy one than here.

If it's not the case, then why do we hear of far more shooting sprees in the US compared to here?
