Hello, Yesterday my 16month old son managed to push my PC of the desk and drop it roughly 1.2m to the ground!

Now ever since this the PC has been running at 52*C idle and 60-65*C max while gaming.

I have just replaced the arctic silver 5 and reseated EVERYTHING but the temp showing via the bios 41*C and coretemp still at 50*C (coretemp used to show 32*C same as bios before the drop.

The only thing i can think of is the fron of the case is slightly come away from the rest of the case and the fan at the front is leaking air out of the case and not in to it.

Could there be any other underlying problem causing the heat problem or do you think its just the case? Im going to try and seal it up with some tape in a minute to just double check but could a drop like this cause the temp readings to become wrong/out of sync?

I have tested everything in the PC and it all seems to be working. (I guess im VERY LUCKY!)

Tried takin the parts out and running them outside the case to see if the temps stay the same? or change in any way? try what you was thinking of doing with the tape and get back to us.

Im just about to run up to the shop to buy some tape now, If the tape idea fail's i will try and see if running the parts out of the case make's any change, If not im at a loss to what could have been damaged!

Ok i have just taped up the front of the case to seal all the gaps in the case now and after a few minutes the temp has not moved at all.

I have also try'd using the side fan as an exhaust and intake and still no change. Is there a way to use the bios to stress the CPU and watch the temp change in the bios? as that might give me a different reading?

I have removed everything from the case, I have used a desk fan directly on the side of the CPU heatsink ect.... And nothing is budging these temp's The desk fan blowing directly on the side of the CPU/Heatsink reduced the temps to 40*C on coretemp and in the bios it was showing 27*C so im guessing Core temp is showing the wrong temps,

I dont understand why tho as before the drop the temps were spot on in the bios and core temp,

Does anyone know why this is happening? is there a small thermometer that may have been nudged out of place? If so where would it be located to?

Im guessing i will have to keep an eye on the temps for a while and just hope core temp is showing temps a bit higher then the real reading!

Is there any thermometer that i can use to study the temps in my case/CPU that could give me a true reading? Last thing i want is for my PC to start melting while playing a game!
