Hank, get some cable ties u know the black wires u get on wires when u buy stuff, they make nice things to connect fans to things. If you want it more secure that or blue tac. :)

Allnamestaken, did u get the cpu from where i did? How was it, everything ok with it? Also any screenies of ur setup and overclocks?

Will slap a message in the forum you mentioned. Ive not had any bad experiences so far with OCUK and ive built machines for friends / family that I have purchased from this site so if nothing can be done its no biggie.

I'm trying to overclock my new i5 3750k on my Asus P8Z77-V Mobo, but I can't seem to get the turbo multiplier above 42. Any ideas? I admit, I'm a bit of a noob when it comes to CPU overclocks, but I am trying to learn. Do I need to up the volts before it will let me or not? I'm so stumped.

Not great its a 600T not famous for good airflow!

Front 200mm intake rear 120mm bitfenix spectre top 2 x 120mm cougars intake(tried exhaust temps go up??

Anyways it BSOD after 1 hour on prime95

Using this settings from a guy on YT:

Temps max 90c @ 4.4Ghz 20 min prime95 ,but never done offset before its on +0.065 so do I go +0.050 for less volts to bring temps down?

Well if it BSOD's after 1 hour then that is usually an indicator of it being unstable, which usually requires more volts, so lowering is not really an option on the volts, to me you should start again, don't just apply peoples settings as sometimes they have no clue or it's just bad advice, best to do some research first, temps of 90 is a bit high.

My advise is use the clear cmos button, (read your motherboard instructions on how to clear cmos) or apply default settings in BIOS, do nothing but change your turbo/multiplier to 40, leave all the voltage at stock and then test with prime95, check temps with realtemp 3.70 and run CPU-Z and see what voltage is being used, then report back for more advise:)

Hmm, no you should not need to up the voltage, maybe you are using the wrong setting in the BIOS?

Have you tried ASUS AI-Suite? it's not ideal but might give you a clue to what is going on.

Look what came and woke me up this morning at half 8. :)



Costa rica as well btw. Hope its silicon gold, well find out maybe tomorrow if its a nice clocker or not. :)

Anyway back to my question, I purchased the retail kit so will be using the stock cooler and have never overclocked and have always been afraid to as I cant afford new parts if I **** up but I was wondering what the risks were in upping the 3570 from 3.6 to an even 4ghz and what exactly would I need to do in order to achieve it.

Sorry, missed that one. You should be fine with 4ghz, doubt you'll even have to touch the voltages, there's a real exponential curve or cooling/voltage required to hit the top numbers, below about 4.2ghz should be fine at stock, with barely raised temperatures.

So should I be pulling the air from outside the case and using the inside pc case as an exhaust? Pretty sure it said on the box to use the fan supplied to stick it going out of the case. OR should I be having both fans set up as PULL/PULL instead of push(inside)/pull(outside) ?

The idea is you set the front fans to be exhausts. The box seemed to not mention any specifics, so they could change their mind later I guess. Their charts there do show the CPU runs cooler pulling from the back, but the GPU gets hotter. As I say, I ignored it and used the 620 as an exhaust, it's been fantastic.

Yeah the geil black dragon 8gb on ocuk when was on offer for 30 down from 39. But found out ocuk has made a typo and its not "black" dragon just dragon which is a different series altogether afaik by lookin on geIL website. So might get it returned and maybe they will be nice enough to change it for somit else.

The price is now £35 for it and the geil laggera seems better spec and geil clearly states it has xmp so i think ill ask for that as a replacement plus better timings like almost all other 12800 ddr3 ram is. Which is kinda good cos i was worried about them c11 timings it had. I mean im sure its fine the dragon ram but its not black dragon even tho i cant use real black dragon cos of the volts they use anyhow but still, black dragon on geil site says its good gaming ram but dragon ram well the description makes it sound like entry level for mainstream (not me) lol.

Its either that or crucial ballistic sport ram which is £35 as well tho the heatsinks on it look naff but i shouldnt worry about heatsinks really as they do naff all anyhow :p

Also the leggera ram says its good with z77 boards which i have so thats another reason i hope they swap it for that, even tho the cyan color heatsinks look naff :p Tho would match the blue theme of the motherboard. :p

Shame about the ram tho the red leds i bet would have looked damn cool in my case with my case having a big window on the side. :)
 
I've looked all over my bios settings and still can't figure it out.
Here's a screenshot of my bios. If I try to up the 42, or type in any number above 42 if will just revert back to it. It's so frustrating. The AI suite will also only let me up it to 42, I can't find any documents or help on this anywhere :confused:

How long have you had it? maybe return it under DSR if less than 7 days old, also what memory do you have as i see it's set at 1333, if it is indeed 1600mhz ram you have you can set it to XMP if they are compatible under AI Overclock Tuner.

Was told today that due to lot of orders my order I placed on thursday for friday delivery wont be delivered and they couldnt even change it to saturday delivery since they couldnt get it out when they should have so now I have to wait til ******* tuesday to get it as the depot that has it hasnt scanned it in so I dont know which one its at.
