Neil Armstrong, the first man on the Moon has died.

A true loss, he showed mankind what we are capable of and inspired generations to come. RIP, gonna get my scope out next clear night and have a lovely look at the Sea of Tranquility

This was apparently written for Apollo 11, incase they were lost in space. It's quite apt now

He will be mourned by his families and friends; he will be mourned by his nation; he will be mourned by the people of the world; he will be mourned by a Mother Earth that dared send one of her sons into the unknown.

In their exploration, they stirred the people of the world to feel as one; in his death, he binds more tightly the brotherhood of man.

In ancient days, men looked at stars and saw their heroes in the constellations. In modern times, we do much the same, but our heroes are epic men of flesh and blood.

Others will follow, and surely find their way home. Man’s search will not be denied. But he was the first, and he will remain the foremost in our hearts.

For every human being who looks up at the moon in the nights to come will know that there is some corner of another world that is forever mankind

Visited Cape Kennedy in June and some of the displays and stories there brought a tear of pride.

RIP Neil, the world is worse off without you,

RIP :(.

I'm going into space one day. I do not care if it costs me my life savings and its a one way ticket. I'm going into space.

Thats kinda stating the obvious.
One would hope that enough new folks are walking on the moon nowadays to balance out the deaths of those older folks that did so 40 years ago...

R.I.P Neil :(

This was to be read in the event of failure, but seems to strike the right chord.

Fate has ordained that the men who went to the moon to explore in peace will stay on the moon to rest in peace.

These brave men, Neil Armstrong and Edwin Aldrin, know that there is no hope for their recovery. But they also know that there is hope for mankind in their sacrifice.

These two men are laying down their lives in mankind's most noble goal: the search for truth and understanding.

They will be mourned by their families and friends; they will be mourned by their nation; they will be mourned by the people of the world; they will be mourned by a Mother Earth that dared send two of her sons into the unknown.

In their exploration, they stirred the people of the world to feel as one; in their sacrifice, they bind more tightly the brotherhood of man.

In ancient days, men looked at stars and saw their heroes in the constellations. In modern times, we do much the same, but our heroes are epic men of flesh and blood.

Others will follow and surely find their way home. Man's search will not be denied. But these men were the first, and they will remain the foremost in our hearts.

For every human being who looks up at the moon in the nights to come will know that there is some corner of another world that is forever mankind.

Gods Speed Neil. You were one of a very chosen few.

The biggest shame out of apollo is that there is no pictures of Armstrong on the moon, static pictures of all other astronauts but none of Neil, other than the picture reflected off himself in Aldrin's visor.

Sad, sad news one of those people that you can do nothing else but look up to, the humbleness and humility he showed in his life is an example to us all. Just think he stood up there and saw a site that I expect none of us will ever see and a site I think could do nothing else but change you fundamentally and completely for ever -Earth rise.

RIP Neil you are mine and millions of other peoples Hero.

For those who may ask what they can do to honor Neil, we have a simple request. Honor his example of service, accomplishment and modesty, and the next time you walk outside on a clear night and see the moon smiling down at you, think of Neil Armstrong and give him a wink.

I think a lot of people will be doing this.

RIP you brilliant man

Statement by the President on the Passing of Neil Armstrong

Michelle and I were deeply saddened to hear about the passing of Neil Armstrong.*

Neil was among the greatest of American heroes - not just of his time, but of all time.* When he and his fellow crew members lifted off aboard Apollo 11 in 1969, they carried with them the aspirations of an entire nation.* They set out to show the world that the American spirit can see beyond what seems unimaginable - that with enough drive and ingenuity, anything is possible. And when Neil stepped foot on the surface of the moon for the first time, he delivered a moment of human achievement that will never be forgotten.*

Today, Neil's spirit of discovery lives on in all the men and women who have devoted their lives to exploring the unknown - including those who are ensuring that we reach higher and go further in space. That legacy will endure - sparked by a man who taught us the enormous power of one small step.
