Strauss retires

Good get KP back now.

Strauss has batted like a reserve player for a pub team for ages so as an opener he won't be missed, we can reshuffle and also re-insert one of crickets best batsmen back in. Win/win!

Strauss was good in his day but him acting like a butthurt teenager over the KP stuff and dropping the man who could have helped us win game 3 has tainted him in my mind. Acted like a kid at the death rather than a good captain which is a shame.

I suspect getting KP back might be the underlying motive here. I doubt Strauss was the only one ****ed off with his attitude, but as captain, he had to make the call. Doubtless only one contributing factor amongst many, but I'll miss Strauss more than I might have missed KP.

By many accounts its Broad, Swann and Anderson that weren't KP's biggest fans. Strauss was more stuck in the middle of two groups (or rather, one group and one bloke). I can't see his retirement being a direct catalyst for Pietersen's return.

It might happen, of course, but I don't think Strauss would have made any difference to that.

As said before cheers for ashes strauss. Also I'd just like to say he came across as a genuinely good bloke something our lovely EPL players could learn from.

LOL go back to watching football:p

KP is a knob, great batsman but an absolute knob. Would you be happy having a guy, whos texted the opposing team and told them how to get a player out??. Not only that, a few yrs ago he managed to get the England coach, Peter Moore sacked. Like i said im glad hes gone from the England squad, England will be much better without KP...great batsman or not.

Shame that Strauss has retired, liked him as England captain and he was pretty successful at it ie winning the ashes. I have a feeling thats its directly because of the whole KP saga but instead of stopping to KP's level, hes decided not to really reveal his reason. Cant have been easy for the guy with the way one of his best players let him down with those texts.

Hope that the ECB dont even reinstate KP back to the England squad, hes burned his bridges with these texts he sent.

Point you in the same way if you are a big enough child to cry over a few texts.

You should go console Strauss and cry over a cocktail about how hard your life was with all those nasty bullies around with their harsh language.

I will always respect what Dtrauss did but to weaken a team because you don't get on with someone is schoolyard antics.

Loved watching that 129 of Strauss again - can't believe it was 7 years ago that Ashes win. That is the series that got me into cricket. The current England team just isn't the same without Tres, Freddie and now Strauss.
