EK (EN) blocks corroding :mad:

So both my (EN) gpu blocks which were RMA replacements have started to corrode.

I used mayhems for a month and went back to EK Ekoolant so I'm doubting it had anything to do with my choice of fluid. I've sent a few support tickets on their site and haven't heard anything back. Where do I go from here ?

Also is there even any point accepting replacement blocks seeing as they'll probably mess up in a few months again anyway ?
 
I'll bet you exactly £2.74 that that's just staining

EK should reply to you soon, probably suggesting you try a metal polish to get rid of the staining. Brasso should work perfectly but please contact EK first to be sure this won't invalidate your warranty.

The blocks are stained but I can see bits of exposed copper.

I'll be posting pics up in a bit when I've drained the loop again.
 
EK > did a fluid test with various pre-mix and de-ionsed water with silver coil and they all stained the block, some worse than others.

As regards to block corrosion you must add photos of the corroded area on your RMA request as prove.
 




Here's an image of one of the blocks. It's the best I can do considering it's the iphone camera. I'm certain it's copper. I can even feel an indent as my nail touches the remaining nickel.

After I used mayhems for a month there was no corrosion so I highly doubt using the mayhems was to blame. I used EK Ekoolant after that for 5 months so my choice of fluid can't be to blame.

Also a bit off topic but does anyone know any cheaper ways of sending to them? Last time sending both blocks cost me £35 from royal mail :S
 
I'm happy to be proved wrong, but from what i've seen and experienced of corrosion with EK nickel, it's usually a regular(ish) shape pattern rather than what's seen in your pics.

It looks a little like the nickel was scratched off.

Can you feel a change in material when you ouch the possibly corroded areas?

EDIT: should cost around £15 via RM for 2 blocks :)
 
I would advice to document EVERYthing before sending to EK, (close up high res shots).
I got refunded for the postage for my CPU block flaking.
 
Flaking, usual rubbish EK flaking problem, as advised take as good photos as you can, I took photos of the block before removing the plexi, after removing the plexi, after cleaning the block, and after trying to remove the "staining" with metal polish.

That way you are covered because there are reports of them squirming out of it.
 
So I finally got a response:

"Dear customer,

thank you for contacting us.

I am sorry to see this happening to your items. I wrote to retailer whether he is willing to prepare a refund for your purchase.
Hopefully they are about to respond promptly."
