Guild Wars 2

i.ve not kept up to date with this game but fancy another mmo, i didnt really get on with the first guild wars so how does this compare to the first one?

I'm now bored with it tbh.. leveling in PVE is just boring and repetitive, wvw is OK but there's normally an hour queue to get into it. PvP is presently offline, Trade has worked for less than 2 days since release. Combat seems to automated with limited abilities and no sence of worth in the bigger fights.

It's improved a lot from Guild Wars but it depends on what sort of MMO you want, normally with MMO's I get hooked and can't stop lvling.. with this anything outside of wvw is a chore after a few lvls.

The plus side is it's free to play.

Hmm. no idea, you should be able to play with that. Try a clean boot. Probably won't help though.

If it makes you feel any better, the game is pretty good. :D

Completely different game.

It depends on what you are after, if you like the WoW model of MMO's and are happy with that then you probably wont like this. Combat is a lot more intense and you need to pay attention for starters :p

The questing is different, no hubs and do X amount of quests in one area and move onto the next. It's a lot more fluid and you need to get out in the world and explore to get the most from it, again if you prefer the WoW way you will dislike it as a lot of people in here do.

PvP. Well WvW is great fun, it can get a little repetitve at times but it is what PvP in MMO's should be like. Huge map, huge battles with loads of people. sPvP is a different kettle of fish, this is where the rewards are at and they have regular tournie's in which you can win unique gear/titles/stuff. This is smaller maps, team based and very tactically/skill intensive. For me it's what WoW arena can only dream of being.

Essentially I think it boils down to are you sick of the WoW way of doing things. Yes? You may well love this. No? Stick with WoW or one of it's derivitives.

Another thing to take into consideration is have you only ever played WoW or the similar WoW model games? If so you may not like this as WoW does a lot of hand holding and guiding (like your typical theme park MMO) whilst GW2 is more sandbox in it's approach in that it expects you to be proactive about making your way through the game.

It certainly has it's share of faults and bugs at the mo as most newly launched MMO's do but for me personally it's a fantastic game and will help ther MMO genre massively, but, it wont be everyones cup of tea.

Hope that helps :)

So my game crashed, and I tried to restart it and I got an error so I restarted my PC, and now when I boot it back up I have to download the whole game again, even though the .dat file is still in the GW2 folder. Is this for real? Is there no way to just take the data from that file instead of download it from scratch?

Does anybody know where a karma vendor is for salvage kits and gathering equip etc?

Cant remember where the last one I used was.

i just use the standard-coins-above-head merchants -- not ones like weaponsmith, armoursmith though.
but the basic ones usually sell kits and trade skill tools, (some dont, it seems a bit random)

I always get the high quality salvage kits and gathering gear from merchants in main city areas or smiths. Note in the buy tab, there are separate tabs for the different categories of things they sell.
