Which office chair? (£1k maximum)

Hi,

Over the last 6 months I've tried out quite a few office chairs from Staples and currently have an Ikea Markus, but they all hurt my back after a few hours of use. I work as a programmer so sit for 6-10 hours a day (with breaks).

I'm considering trying out the Herman Miller Aeron Office Chair, Size B (a massive step up in price at £899 but returnable within 7 days if it's no good), I also saw the Herman Miller Embody chair recommended, but can't find any shops that stock it with a decent return policy.

Does anyone have feedback on the Herman Miller Aeron B, or recommendations for other chairs before I try the Herman Miller?

Thanks in advance.

An agency we work with has Aerons and they are great to sit in. I am always thinking of simply wheeling myself out of the office on it and legging it but they are so hard to get onto the tube.

Really they are extremely comfortable though, the slightly flappy back is a bit strange but you quickly get used to it.

I haven't tried an Embody they do look great chairs.

Am using a Steelcase Leap at home (ex Lehman brothers, bought on a popular auction site) and its great and was a bit of a bargain.

I've never had a chair so comfortable to sit in at the PC and as I often work from home it's great. Were you to search for Steelcase Leap Ergonomic Office Chair you might come across one.

I've got a humanscale freedom which is fantastic. You can pick them up reasonably cheaply second hand as well.

Forget the Aeron. Not much saving, and once you experience the support and 'freedom' of upper body movement of the Embody, you won't look at anything else!

did your range of chairs from staples include the kashmir?

tbh its back support and build quality are probably its only faults, so i guess it wouldnt be what you are looking for

sorry if I'm poiting out the obvious.

Have you considered that it may not be the chair that is causing the back pain? If every chair that you have tried is causing you exactly the same problem then maybe the problem lies elswhere? Your desk ergonomics could be all wrong or your posture is wrong and a chair alone can fix neither of those things.

I have just bought a DXRacer waiting for it to be delivered at the moment and I have only read good things about them so far, however I would imagine Herman Miller would probably be the best available with your budget!

You might save yourself some money if you have a good message first and check your posture.

Having said that given the hours you spend in front of a computer once your back is sorted (if its a problem) then a descent chair would still be worth every penny.

1k for a chair ?

What a great contribution to the thread.

I have a bad back from poor posture as I spend a lot of my day working in front of the PC. I have spent hundreds on phsyio etc to get my spine mobile again, the pain can be very restrictive, I stopped playing football and running at one point which turns out to be one of the worst things I could have done.

A chair like the ones discussed in this thread would be a worthwhile investment for someone spending so much time in front of their PC.

The Herman Miller Aeron B looks like the chairs we had in our old office (were Herman Millers), super comfy and I really miss them. If you can afford it then get one. :)
