Claiming parking spaces in a terraced street

We live in a terraced street with on street parking and we have this old guy who tries to claim his own parking spots. He's my daily source of amusement.

He'll always always always try and get a parking spot right outside of his house. He has a stupid little MG Midget type thing parked outside of his house 24/7 and he'll try and get his Discovery behind it.

As soon as someone leaves close to his house he'll move his car to that spot, even if it's only a car length ahead and if he's parked on the opposite side of the road, he'll move it to the spot on his side of the street.

Just now he's followed some woman into the street who stole his precious spot and started beeping and ****** at her and told her to move. She didn't so he's tried to park just behind her and no way was he getting in but she's moved anyway to avoid the hassle so now he's Mr Happy again.

Anyone else have someone like this and wonder if they are mentally all there?

We used to have a guy down the road park his BT van outside our house... We had 3 cars, and parked 2 on the drive, we ended up complaining to BT due to his van being prone to causing an accident.

Basically van outside our house = blind pulling out... BT gave him a word and he never done it again :D.

Can't say I'm protective of the spot anymore, now only have 1 car, soon 2 once my 350z comes and no way is that going on the road.

I've been known to move my car when someone leaves but only when i've had to park in one of the spots where you regularly see people attempt a 94 point turn the wrong way round and repeatedly almost hit the parked cars :p

Yep used to live next door to one who would leave notes on my windscreen if I parked outside his house (nearest free parking space to my house)

Did you leave replies on his car next to his slashed tyres? :p

"Sorry, was chopping vegetables in the kitchen and inadvertently ended up outside at your car."

The mad woman who lived opposite my last house used to poke her head out the upstairs window and start shouting abuse, heavily laden with serious obscenities, at anyone who parked outside her house. Judging by how quickly she sometimes appeared at the window she must have been up to the window every couple of minutes (I don't think she watched full time though). The abuse would continue as you walked up the road, and carry on long after you were out of sight. The police were called at least once to shut her up. She didn't have a vehicle of her own, and never had visitors that I saw.

Where my wife and I used to live we had a neighbor who had three cars, one car was always parked outside our house, my wife moved her car off our driveway when they were out and into that spot as we had guests coming. 30 minutes later we had a knock on the door and he was demanding that we move the car as he needs HIS space.

I just looked at him for a few seconds, and closed the door.

He went ballistic, completely flipped out, shouting and screaming like a child and never spoke to us again.

The wife took great pleasure in parking there when ever she had the chance after that.

I used to have a lovely old dear living next door who didn't have a car so would sometimes park in front of her house and she had no objections at all (it was a public road but I asked out of courtesy). A complete mentalist that lived about 5 houses up then started leaving notes on my car (and my wife's) suggesting that it was his space has he'd been using it before I had, and that he would not permit me to park there any longer! I lost my rag in the end and knocked on his door, to be confronted by a woman obviously a quite a lot younger than him, so without thinking asked if I could speak to her father and got a very frosty reception...turns out is was his wife :D

Used to live in a terraced house, old guy next to us was the same as in OP. he would moan like mad if someone parked outside his house in 'his' spot.

Only difference was this old bloke didn't drive and neither did his wife. So he had no need to keep the space! He used to say his family might visit..... They never did.
Was fun annoying him :)

I don't like people parking directly outside my house only because it creates a MASSIVE blind spot when I reverse out of the drive. The cars coming on that side tend to come down quite fast.

Luckily for me it doesn't happen often.

couldn't care less as long as my car is parked within site of the house.

only issue we have is idiots that cant park taking up 3 spaces with 2 cars sort of thing.

had the neighbour moan at me once because I squeezed into a tight space and didn't leave him enough room to get out. just smiled and nodded and walked away

Used to have some baffoon leaving notes on everybodies car saying not to park outside their house. I ignored as did most other people on the road. My car got keyed not long after but I still parked there as I really didn't care.

I now have a driveway so rather than being involved in space wars I just have to put up with morons blocking the driveway several times a week

Just curious but what can you do if you were blocked in for the day? Do the police have duty to get involved or would u new to contact the council.

If I'm not parked outside my house and I see a space free I will move the car :o

I don't think of it as my space, just it's nice if you come back from shopping or are putting a car seat / buggy etc in to be able to park outside.

OK, did that really happen? I know it makes it a bit more dramatic and funny, but i very much doubt that really did happen.

TBH that's fair play. I don't think anyone would have a problem with that at all. What i think is funny is the people who seem to think that they own the tarmac outside their house, just because it's outside their house. I used to have people parking outside our house all the time but never once did i ask someone to move their car, because why the hell should they? It's a public road, and i just had to find parking elsewhere.

Our street is very short, 15 houses IIRC, and very narrow. So all of us that live here are really careful of where we park. Otherwise an ambulance would have NO chance of getting down the street, there's a lot of elderly folk on my street and the one round the corner, and its a dead end. It all works fine of an evening and weekends.

8-6 is a nightmare. I am close to the hospital and the staff all park on our street. Not an issue in itself but they park all willy-nilly. Blocking people in, no chance for wider vehicles, or for people to turn around. Blocking the access to the backings where the few garages are. One bloke insists on parking ~6" from the curb. Some people really don't give a rodents bottom about other people when it comes to their cars. But hey, we are a good 50 meters closer to the hospital than the staff car-park!

There in for a shock soon. Its gotten to the point that the council is designating it residents only. Permits an all :D
