Motorola release first new phones since Google takeover

Finally, a large screen phone with a properly sized battery in it.

Any company that sells a 4.5inch+ screen phone with a <2000mAh battery needs slapped. I'd much rather have an extra 2-4mm thickness on a handset if it meant 30-50% longer battery life anyday.

Slapped?? Bull-whipped naked in public at the very least :p

I quite like the look of the new Motorola's. Downside is they put little to zero effort into marketing in the UK and even less effort into support

That said I'm sick of signal issues with both my HTC One phones that it'll be a long time before I buy a new HTC. I have an old Motorola Defy + and it always has 4 bars plus and never drops signal. Blasted HTC are poor from that point of view. Never tried a Razr though. Motorola's hardware is generally good and they seem to know what is required for good signal reception which is really one of the most important features in a phone for me.

Not had time to have a read other than here. Any ETA for UK?

Something innovative, something new. They're just spec bumps for the existing RAZR line.

seeing reports that the UK version of the razor M will be with an Intel chipset.

I like the battery life, ut a top range model such as the max should have quad core now as a lot of people have 24 month contracts and the thought of having a dual core phone in 2014 makes me shudder...

If these come with unlocked bootloaders and Motorola can sort out their updates then I'll be tempted by the MAXX especially since it has a MicroSD card slots (Yeah Buddy!) but Motorola's track record makes me really cautious.

They mentioned they would also be releasing "developer" versions of the Razr with unlocked bootloaders so we can only hope they make it over here as well.

That's almost the same width as the iPhone!

Nice pic from Anandtech.

NOOOOOOO! Unless they're unleashing Clover Trail the UK has got completely screwed over this year. Medfield sucks compared to the S4 :(

 That'll need explaining...

Sounds like the Razr HD will be released here before the MAXX version - depending on how long the wait its I'll plump for the 2530mah version. On the plus side it's thinner and lighter, but the MAXX has 16GB more storage and ~800mah more juice.

Dual core is OK for now, but for future software updates and based on a 24 month contract, I wouldn't want a dual core phone if I can help it on an android phone.
WP8, not such an issue, but having gone from a S3 to the original dual core atrix, Im noticing the massive speed decrease..

That's mostly down to the Atrix having pants software support and a really weak dual core Tegra 2 processor.

You should regard the Snapdragon S4 as being in atleast the same class as the Quad Exynos in the SGS3. Add to that what looks like very decent software from Moto.

...

Considering the last Razr MAXX was released to replace the last Razr as it could barely make it through a single working day without being recharged, why are they bothering to bring out a new Razr non MAXX? :S

MAXX is a verizon exclusive for the time being - RazrHD already has a substantial 2530mah battery. Couple that to a efficient processor/soc and hopefully lastest gen SAMOLED - it will have class leading batterylife.

Yep, my Galaxy S II was flat at 3:47 yesterday.

I don't care about any new advances in phones if I can't get a day of moderate use out of them.

I normally have to charge while Im at work be it my S2 or 4s, phones just dont last.

But that other Driod phone they released a few weeks back with a S4 had just bad bettery life :S, so hoping this is better.

Phone design isn't my cup of tea :p Yeah Kevlar is great and would be lovely to have but make it look better! :p

Hardware looks great (assuming UK gets S4 chipset) and huge batteries is great, should get some epic battery life when combined with the S4 and SAMOLED screen :D of course assuming that the software is also optimized well enough :p

Hopefully the camera will be as good as the X/S and GS 3, usually this is one of the biggest downsides for Motorola phones.

And the software looks nice, hopefully with google backing them up, it means that they will now become the best for software skin and updates.

As said, the S4 chipset is in a league of its own when compared to every other dual core CPU and it is far better than the quad in the X and better than the exynos quad in the GS 3 when it comes to sheer performance per core, battery efficiency and heat. Plus the majority of android apps still don't fully utilise dual core let alone quad.

If there are 2 nexus devices coming in November, both exactly the same specs, but one has the S4 chipset and the other using the same exynos quad chip as the GS 3, I know which one I would be choosing in a heartbeat :p

Worth remembering as Im seriously considering the new nokia WP8 as I fancy a change, but won't dismiss the new nexus devices if they are dual core..

Does that mean they will come without warranty then? Not gonna say I'm getting one until I see how they handle their software updates.

Wow looks nice

Lte.. Is that what will work with the new 4g with EE?

Looks awesome, love the back, real metal, hate plastic samsung phones, feel of the galaxy nexus I have now is horrible without a case. Big battery too and sd slot.

Gonna be this or nexus phone for me.

I don't even care if it's 4.0 or 4.1

This is the most impressed I have been with the look of a phone since Igot my HTC Desire

Also just seen its bit heavier than my nexus, which again I like, do not like light phones
