...ok after much research and Q&As on here, i have hmm'd and haw'd and finally decided on this basket.

Anything you reckon i should change?

MSI GeForce GTX 680 Lightning 2048MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card

Crucial RealSSD M4 512GB 2.5" SATA 6Gb/s Solid State Hard Drive

Asus X79 Sabertooth Intel X79 (Socket 2011) DDR3 Motherboard

Intel Core i7-3820 3.60GHz (Sandybridge-E) Socket LGA2011 Processor

Samsung Green 16GB (4x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C11 1600MHz 30nm

Noctua NH-D14-2011 Dual Radiator CPU Cooler with PWM Fans

£1480 (with shipping)

mostly gaming, possible light video encoding etc.
i do a lot of image editing and such like aswell.

Well it sounds like a Z77 board and 3570K would suffice.

Also a 3770K is actually faster than a 3820 - http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/551?vs=523

So example spec,

YOUR BASKET
1 x Gigabyte GeForce GTX 670 Windforce 3X 2048MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card £349.99
1 x OCZ Vertex 4 512GB 2.5" SATA 6Gb/s Solid State Hard Drive (VTX4-25SAT3-512G.M) £339.98
1 x Intel Core i7-3770K 3.50GHz (Ivybridge) Socket LGA1155 Processor (77W) - Retail £269.99
1 x Gigabyte Z77X-D3H Intel Z77 (Socket 1155) DDR3 Motherboard £108.98
1 x Samsung Green 16GB (4x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C11 1600MHz 30nm Dual/Quad Channel Kit (MV-3V4G3D/US) £77.98
1 x Alpenföhn K2 Mount Doom CPU Cooler (Socket LGA1156/1155/1366/AM2/AM2+/AM3/AM3+/FM1) £59.99
Total : £1,218.91 (includes shipping : £10.00).

almost definitely wanting to be on the x79 platform; i have a feeling that socket 2011 will be around longer than the others and sometimes you just have to go with your gut.

by going onto socket 1155 i'm possibly leaving myself few upgrade options come next year to be quite honest.

edit: cheaper at the time could be much more expensive down the line.

The 3820 doesn't have any advantage over the 3770k.

The x79 motherboards are a lot more expensive whole offering no other benefits.

I feel 1155 is the best route. If you went 2011, the only CPU upgrade is £400 plus.

You can get xfire/ sli with both options.

Possible.

However there are a load of ivy bridge CPUs coming out for lga 2011 and also, by the time i go for a new CPU even the 3930K will be cheaper.
