Thanks! Most excellently, I have just found a chestnut tree at the end of the garden, so free roastie-goodness this Bonfire Night. :)

I was weak when GW released the new version of the 40k starter set :p (the models look really good, and give me potential allied forces for two of my existing armies, and the mini rule books are always handy)

It is a lovely box set given what you get for the money, but the rest of GW's ranges are so insanely overpriced it killed any desire to get back into 40k for me.

For example to buy roughly the same miniatures separately would cost around £200 at retail!

What are the other things? Markers and dice?

Aaaahhh bonfire night, my most favourite evening of the year :D

Me too. I love autumn in general - cool nights, sunny days, rust-coloured leaves drifting softly down like rain. I'm planning to use the garden a lot this year, hence the chiminea.

I'm curious about warhammer 40k, I just don't understand how the game works.

How do the little figures "move about"? I don't get it!

Basically each model type has a movement value which is set as say 4 or 6 inches for normal troops, and 12-24 for vehicles.
Terrain affects it (roll two dice and use the higher), and how far you move affects things like what you can fire.
Also some troops can jump which means they can avoid obstacles (or jump behind cover), but if you land them on difficult terrain or into a building you have to roll to see if they're hurt/killed.

Then it's basically stat lines (you roll a dice and need to get say a 4+ to hit if your shooting skill is 3), and a dice rolls :)
With different weapons being better for different targets, or some troops being better at shooting, whilst others may be better at hand to hand.

The fun really starts with armies that might look overpowered at first glance, but have oddities such as when using some weapons/skills they might "acidently" fire on their own side, or the weapon might blow up.
One of the Orc guns has a chance of basically killing the model firing, any models within a set range of him, AND anything the model is in - so if it misfires potentially the player might lose a couple of squads + a building if it's standing on one at the time.
It's great fun when a very expensive unit of Beserkers (I think it is), lose a certain roll and end up chasing the nearest enemy unit - you can have 150+ points of models chasing a 10 point model for most of a game:p (Tau "sacrificial" gun drones*)

I must admit GW are getting silly with some of the prices now :(
Part of the reason I bought the starter set than normal models ;)

The dice are objective and vehicle damage markers, they're expensive for what they are, but look nice, and are sufficiently different to anything else I've got that even the "normal" ones will work for wound counters - and they've got little holders for the dice.

*You can either add them as units on their own, or detach them from Tau vehicles - and their weapons are just strong enough that (at least under the previous rules), a smart player doesn't ignore them completely. They have just enough firepower that they can potentially kill, or disable a standard Marine or Orc tank from the rear, and are mobile enough they can jump in and out of cover to get into position for that shot.

Which model? I'm going to be in the market for a new tv for the new flat when me & my mates move in, the whole is going to be one big man cave :D

LED ES7000 55".

I know the 8000 range is out now but couldn't/didn't want to stretch to that price.

Fantastic piece of kit though. I got a 5 year warranty thrown in too.

COME ROUND WE'LL TALK CHICKS

Tis my favourite time of year too, there's something about the quality of the sunlight that makes it a special time of year for me :)

I will elaborate more upon this later should you wish to listen to me ramble more :)
