Possibly, unresonated mid section, only got the sports cat and relatively weedy backbox to drown out the noise, but similar systems fitted to similar cars come out around 92dB.

What's the donny limit? My Js racing single pipe was something like 100 which is one of the reasons I got rid of it.

92sounds decent on the LCR. I've driven my mates standard one a few times. I image they sound much better with more boost ?

Limit on the day is 98Db.

Yeah, the system sounds decent enough, but still in typical VAG 1.8T fashion it sounds a bit flat and droney.

They are strict too, I got black flagged as I used 2nd out of the chicane which triggered 98.4db

As such as Donny I only use 3rd and 4th. :)

If you get black flagged can you then go back out, or is that you done for the day?

If you can prove that you have done something to alter the sound then they will let you back out.

We never saw it happen, as Gibbo never broke the 98dB limit a 2nd time, but they did hint that it could be "game over" if you breach it a 2nd time (due to the fine for the operator being huge).

So if you break it once, what happens? Called in? Told off? Told to keep it down? Then if it happens again game over?

Sorry, I don't want to risk ruining the day for myself.

Hi there

They recommend at the start of the day, you short shift if you think you might breach the limits, so if you've got a 7k redline, shift at 6k.

Basically build your speed throughout the day if your worried your car will be on the limit.

If you trigger it, they black flag you, if you can prove you've done something, they let you back on.

What I will say is they don't check to see what you've done, so in my case I just said I can plug something in within the engine bay, they did not check we'd done this, they just said fine, do it and you can go back on.

For me the issue is using 2nd through the chicane, as one of the sound meters is there, if I use 2nd I am at 7000rpm on the corner exit, if I use 3rd, I am around 5000rpm as such no issues.

Get black flagged a second time and its day over though unless you can prove there is something else you can do I guess, but be prepared for 2 strikes and your going home.

Thanks Gibbo.

How many places on the track do they have a sound check?

Search on the net and you will find it, but it is 2 places I believe, one is definetely somewhere along the pitt straight.

But I think the one which goes me is just after the chicane somewhere around the pit wall, hence come out of that in Chicane hitting 7500rpm's more or less triggered it.

I think there is another somewhere around the bottom of craner curves or the old hairpin, but craners is best done in a higher gear, to keep the car settled and the old hairpin can be taken at some speed so again you want like 3rd for it so you can get on the power if you take too much speed in and end up having to correct, like I did in my video, you need those high RPM's to get the car out of trouble. :D

Merlin had to drive his dc5 slow back in 2007. I can't remember where it is. I'm sure he mentions it in his thread. Of course the track has changed since so it could have moved

I've got Blue NDX on the Impreza. Seem to handle the heat quite well.

Can't get those for my car!

Don't seem to have too many options with pads it seems.

Could also do with getting an intercooler, but i doubt i will have enough spare to buy one before this, i'll just hope the temperature is below 15 degrees or so :p

Take the Vette on!

I'd love to but I spent my dollar all on a new radiator, fluids and a thermostat to get the beast back on the road. I'm coming to watch in my Scirocco and then off to collect a set of wheels and sort my private plate out. I need the space to get the 19" alloys in, the 'vette isn't big enough.
