7950 vs 660 ti

Do you bang on as much when you fill up the car in comparison to yesteryears pricing?

Your worse than the missus.:D:p
:)

There is an expectation that each year's models will have improvements, but cost the same as the last year's. Not just with gfx cards... with cars, TVs, phones, CPUs... you name it.

We call it progress.

GFX card makers are now trying a different strategy. It goes like this:

"This years model is better than last years, so it costs more."

If they keep using this strategy each year, we'll soon be looking at "mid-range" cards that cost £300. And of course no one with any sense will buy them.

Or, they try the even sneakier tactic of saying 'the 660Ti performs better relative to other cards today than previous midrange Nvidia cards did back then, which is why it costs more'.

I'm over the moon with my 7950. The question I asked of the forums was whether to get the 670 or 7950, don't even consider the 660ti.

I eventually went with 7950 as it was so damn cheap and came with 3 games.

Hey nitram,

Look forward to killing you on bf3 soon.

How does she clock?

As we like to overclock heres an overclocking video from Linus including a 7950 (which i think is the Sapphire) ;)

If he was trying to make that ti660 power edition look great he failed pretty badly. It was the only card using voltage and still got beaten by a 7950 with no volts added. With volts added i reckon the 7950 would have won in skyrim as well.

AMD have just announced more price cuts to their 7000 series. Probably to counter nvidia's new mid range releases and potential price drops.

Yea he sounded pretty surprised himself :)

Edit ^ By that i meant surprised by the 7950.. maybe he was using the latest driver :p

It's because of the bus width only being 192bit on the 660's. I can't understand why they still make mid range cards like this because as soon as you add AA the card falls to pieces.

I'm glad spenty is seeing the 660 for what it really is :)

Yes but it can still beat some of the AMD cards in certain games even with AA lol. They aren't bad cards they have other advantages to them which AMD lack like physx, adaptive v-sync and such.

But I agree now for the price they shouldn't even be took into consideration against 7850-7950's.

While it is good that it's been quantified (the drop off when AA is applied) it is only showing the obvious.

MSAA is horrendous at hogging resources for the amount it actually cleans up. The difference between 2x and 4x is small (at best) and I would imagine the difference between 4x and 8x is miniscule.

Roll on TXAA :D.

I find the difference between 2x and 4x to be very noticeable.
