Is there any good videos to explain the basics?

Had a nice person run me through some of the super basics for about 30 minutes, but I still have no idea how to get vehicles etc so takes so long to get in on the action!

The PlanetSide 2 Beta client is in the process of being updated and players may notice the following changes:

General:

We continue to address crash bugs and stability tweaks to create a more stable gameplay experience.
Commander Certifications are now available.
Players may no longer spawn/respawn into a MAX units.
Equipment Terminals will no longer heal players when used.
Warpgate Locations have been moved.
Resource Rewards have been slightly adjusted.
A number of map enhancements have been made.
Known Issues:
Waypoints are currently being worked on to allow different types. Currently waypoints are not working correctly at this time but are being worked on.
Notable Bug Fixes:

Vehicles that are locked to Squad/Platoon only will now allow Platoon members to enter.
Classes:

The MAX will no longer be available for respawn. Players will now access an equipment terminal to use the MAX.
Vehicles:

The Magrider's tune speed and strafe has been adjusted.
Items:

Spawn Beacon cost has been adjusted to 100 Alloys.
Med Kit cost has been adjusted to 150 Catalysts.
Restoration Kit cost has been adjusted to 75 Catalysts.
Claymore/Siphon Bomb/Bouncing Betty cost has been adjusted to 75 Polymers.
C4 cost has been adjusted to 100 Catalysts.
Sticky Grenade cost has been adjusted to 100 Alloys.
Frag Grenade cost has been adjusted to 45 Alloys.
Players can now deploy as many explosives as they can equip.
Certifications:

Infrared Night Vision Certifications are now available on vehicle weapons.
Commander certifications allow the use Command channels.
Certifications for the Heal and Repair tools have been added.
World:

The New Conglomerate Warpgate is now located in the eastern portion of the map.
The Terran Republic Warpgate is now located in the northern portion of the map.
The Vanu Sovereignty Warpgate is now located in the southern portion of the map.
Peris capture mechanics have been updated.
Players should now see enemy units more clearly on the mini-map.
Interface:

A toggle for the continent map is now available that will show a coordinate based grid which can be used to coordinate movement.
A “center on me” toggle has been added to the upper left corner of the map. Arrows around this toggle will allow the map to pan.
Facility names now appear on the continent map if the Facility toggle is on.
The continent map will now save your position and zoom level when you close the interface.
An activity indicator has been added to the region information panel. As you mouse over the regions with the Territory control toggle on you can see value listed for how busy that region is.
Hotspot indicators should more accurately drop players in the location they are requesting.

TR are swapping warpgates with NC. Thank god for that. Now the doubleteaming performed on TR might happen less and Vanu/NC might actually have to fight each other to push out.

That Vanu hasn't full capped the whole map is just fail on their part, almost all of both the NC / TR are constantly fighting in and around the perma-grind that is West Highlands... there is barely anyone left for you to fight with and you only managed to barely break out into NC territory for a little while before getting pushed back? :D

Lol we pushed NC right back to their warpgate and held them there with only 28% population. One thing is for sure, when pops are equal, the Vanu cannot be matched. TR pushed past the Crown ONCE lol in like 4 hours despite having almost 40%, really quite pathetic.

Not that I am aware of. You pick what server you want to play on when you create your character.

bang tidy!

once ya make a character is it like bound to that one server? how many are there? where are most the people playing?

I don't want to join a server and then find out i'm there with just loads of russians and no one i know or from here :p

the "battle" is just one big continuous thing for planetary region control isn't it?.... like the game "Risk" ? is it all just one big map which you play on or is it divided up into smaller sub sections, i.e. can you wander about the entire map in a ship... or if you want to move to a different area you have to log out and load into a different 'battle' ?

saw a few videos and it had the grids like risk on a global map divided into hexagons or some shaped quadrant. then in the game after they clicked on the region they went in and there was a facility or something with 4 spread out capture points. is that all there is per quadrant? and back to my previous question. say you capture and area, can you just go on foot/transport to the next quadrant or have to relog.

is the map fully explorable from one load? can you venture as far as you like into enemy territory? can you cap random quadrants deep withing the enemy region or is it like risk where you have to attack adjacent areas only?

Yes, about 3 EU servers and 3 US? I can only speak for EU1 but thats always nicely packed.

The battle is never ending until the servers go down :p , the map is divided into hexes which you attack to gain control of resources that the hexes produce. You log into the nearest friendly area i believe after you logout. You can explore the whole map after 1 load so there is no log out to get to another battle.

Each hex currently revolves around capturing some points to increase your influence and capture the base ( think bf3 capture mechanics) There are some variations to this such as blowing up shield gens to get to a point inside a large base.

You can only cap points currently which are adjacent to ones region or is it like risk where you have to attack adjacent areas only?
you currently own, map is fully explorable in one load you can go anywhere

:)

1. There are 3 EU based servers EU01 is busiest

2. I have not noticed lots of russians, unless your in an outfit or squad there is not a great deal of communication going on.

3. The current beta map 'Indar' is completely persistant, you can go to any locations without loading screens and into deep enemy territory if you like. I believe they plan to include additional maps after launch and these will probably have load screens between.

4. The map is divided into Hexes, dotted around the maps are buildings called facilities which can be captured, facilities can have multiple capture points and control multiple hexes. So if your side captures a facility multiple hexes (3-5) will turn over to your control. These facilities generate resources which can be used to purchase ammo, vehicles and aircraft.

Quick question, If i get the Alpha access would I be able to download it at work create a back up and take it home tonight? I have 8mb at work and 1mb adsl at home and it would take ages to download.

Could not resist or wait for a key any longer so got the alpha. Is it easy to get involved with teamwork or will I be wandering around alone unless I join an outfit ? Dont fancy been a billy mates until I can find a clan.

Also is there a good guide on the factions and differences between them, cant seem to find one other than videos but I cant watch them at work.

thanks for that jongo :) cleared things up a little bit. so it's "kind of" like lots of battlefield, capture the objective maps.... but all on one map. kinda like domination on arma 2, you have your target city, go there, kill the baddies, cap the barracks/outposts, occasional side mission of blowing something up then move onto the next city?

sounds really awesome, give you that sense of progression if you are roflstomping thorugh the bases, looking at the main map seeing your territory expanding :D

is there like a faction main base that cannot be capped? what's the sorta scale of the maps.... from what i've seen it looks.... MASSIVE!!!!! is it like arma 2 and its 225^2km maps that take like 10 mins in a fast jet to get from one side to the other? bigger?

purchase vehicles? is that from personal funds of team funds? is that for specialist vehicles only or for all... are there free vehicles you can use that respawn at bases?

Well I reformatted last week and for Planetside 2, I just dragged the Planetside 2 folder from my USB 3.0 backup drive onto the new windows installation and it worked fine, so you could do that.

since the servers came up a couple of hours ago I am disconnecting every 2 mins. I see they just took them down again, hoping for a fix!

The patch introduced a bug that is causing the crashes/disconnects.

They're working on it, but last estimate was it would take 3-5 hours to fix, but may be longer.

Might not go to our Thunder Thursday tonight now :(
