1 GTX690 or 2 AMD 7970s ?

Just get two well cooled 7970's for crossfire, the reference ones can get noisy. You could over clock and be faster than a 690, or if you don't want to over clock you could get the o GHz edition cards and still be faster/cheaper than a 690. Personally I would just get two good vanilla 7970's and give them a moderate over clock.

The question is other than the price (although you have selected a 690) why not two 680's?

These are faster than the competition by a very teeny amount on around 60-70% of games.

Yes, 2x680 is definitely worth considering. The 690 on special offer is a decent price though for what it is. You have to ask if he needs all this power though, what is your setup OP?

I'd recommend 670 SLI or 7970 crossfire out of his choices so far.

GTX690 - there is no comparison.

If going multi-GPU... Nvidia are still the only company to choose.

Single GPU... it's pretty much the same.

Speaking from both personal & anecdotal experience... use the search feature if you want to read more of an argument on it ;)

I wouldn't even look at the 7990 going on the review I saw :D.

It's extremely noisy, performs worse than 7970 crossfire, more expensive, the heatsink wasn't pressing on the GPU correctly and required DIY to rectify spiralling temperatures, it's not an official radeon card so driver support may end up being lacking.

The card overall is horrendous even based on dual GPU card standards.

I have already bought the ram , the samsong spin point hard drive , the 60 GB sdd and the case.
After a lot of deciding and some research this is the set up I am happy with.
Obviously I still am not sure which graphics cards to go with , but definitely some powerful ones.

After a little research people seem to really like the 690..
My issue with Nvidia is I play the total war series and for shogun 2 there was problems for months on nvidia cards until drivers were released.
It would suck if there was driver problems when Rome 2 comes out.

Luckly it comes with a toolkit to fit the faulty cooler. How thoughtful of them lol.

Looks like a pretty nice setup, although I'd be tempted to swap the Hazro with a decent Dell 27". There's some pretty horrific stories concerning build quality on the Hazros.

Perhaps swap the Adata SSD for something like the Crucial M4 or a Samsung 830. This would free up an extra £100 to go towards a better monitor. I'd challenge you to notice the difference in speed between any decent 6Gbs SSD apart from in benchmarks ;)

Aww how cute.

Something to consider would be 2x 7950s and overclock them, 7970s and 680s are quite expensive for the performance difference they bring.

You could get nearly 2x 7950s for the price of one of those 7970s you're looking at.

As for the monitor, I've got 3x of those Korean screens, and I couldn't fault them. I paid about half the going rate of a 27" Hazro per monitor.

I hear Samsung SDDs are pretty reliable.

I should look for a monitor with these qualities.

* Low Input lag
* 16:9 aspect ratio
* 1920x1080 resolution
* 120 Hz in 2D or IPS/VA
* Fast response time
* Well implemented Overdrive (no reverse ghosting)
* HDMi port (to connect to console)
* No visable back light bleed. (Else gaming in dark games become a pain.)
* Height adjustable stand

Im a massive fan of Rome Total War if nvidia screw up RTW2 they will feel the sharp point of my Gladius.

The GTX 690s are nice cards when you look at them they look like something Mercedes styled rather than nvidia.
