Warp Drive a step closer to reality?

I'm still waiting for them to invent the belts out of the tomorrow people.

So I find this kind of incredible, but it appears that recent developments at NASA have led to them concluding that FTL travel is actually plausible and the energy requirements have theoretically dropped substantially.

The fact that they are working on table-top experiments to generate micro warp fields is amazing.

Maybe in a couple of hundred years we truly could be travelling among the stars.

:)

Getting back on topic, it's great that the theoretical energy requirements have come down, but it still needs certain types of exotic particles which almost certainly don't exist. Basically, where are you going to get the negative mass / negative energy to produce the "up" part of the warp bubble?

Good news guys, while these sort of advancements are beyond our lifespan, a crazy russian billionair has started funding an immortality project for 2045! BONUS! http://2045.com/about/

Its all coming together nicely :)

Downloadable conciousness into robotic body + FTL capable spacecraft (and lets be real, SPACE LASERS!) = EvE RealLife!

Hope not. Half the known galaxy would be run by a group of people whose sole objective in life is to be a **** to everyone else.

Add mars one to the crazy schemes. Although slightly more realistic.

I think the future looks bright for space travel. It seemed to off Ben dormant for a while, but the next 10years seem to be laying the foundation for a new space era of cheaper commercially viable space businesses.

Is that website some kind of joke? As if they would ever get to Mars in 10 years time, let alone setup a full time base. It's a nice pipe dream, but that's all it is.

Where's the funding come from? The reason why NASA hasn't done it (and they are probably the only ones capable) is the massive amount of money it would cost.

big brother tv series and unlke NASA it wold be a one way ticket, vastly dropping the price.

I love how science can hinge on the very shape of something, though it is a tad awkward that it took 10+ years to figure out a donut is probably better than a sphere for an alcubierre drive.

But frankly...i kind of worry what our space ships will look like at this stage...WE NEED FABULOUS SHIPS DAMN IT!

Why's that a happy thought? We'll be dead and have missed it. That's a sad, rubbish thought.:( Thanks for bringing a downer on my day dude.

Finally someone that thinks the way I do! Learning what might be in the future is more depressing than exciting for me (unless they figure out a way for humans to live fit and healthily for 1000 years before I'm dead) :(

Always amazes me the complexity of the warp effect in the movies just got more and more basic, no blurring lights or anything now just "boom" its gone.

I find that more impressive though. Like the lightspeed effect on A New Hope. It took em about half an hour just to get going!

That little boom noise, and the jump into nothingness imho emphasises just how fast it would be.

There are those that believe the first person to live to 1000 is alive right now.
