whats a good upgrade from this for me.

i play black ops and new one when it comes out

wow maybe guild 2 wars, max payne3

i have cpu Intel® Core™ i7-980X Processor Extreme Edition
(12M Cache, 3.33 GHz, 6.40 GT/s Intel® QPI)

24 Gigs ram.

oh I want to stick with Nvidia.

670 or 680 are your best bets for nvidia. Why do you want to upgrade may I ask? my 580 is performing fine on all games (solid 60fps for most games adaptive vsync) and its not overclocked yet.

There's nothing worth upgrading to when you got a GTX 580.
I had 3x GTX 580s and "upgraded" to 3x GTX 670 and it was so not worth it... I only did it because I could without loosing to much cash on it, and frankly I'm kinda regretting doing the upgrade since it was only a 20% performance boost. I had hoped the GTX 670 might scale just a bit better than GTX 580 in SLi, but it's the same.

Get another GTX 580 to run SLi if you can or wait for Full-size-Kepler aka Mr.GK110.

Sell the GTX580 whilst it's still worth something and get the GTX680. Should keep you going for a while and can be found under £375 (EVGA one as well). A GTX670 would hardly be worth it.

Even at GTX 680 isn't worth it IMO, that's why I went GTX 670 just to get a little increase for the lowest amount of money (in hindsight still a stupid decision though)

Selling a GTX 580 is a really bad time since GTX 660 and GTX 660Ti will heavily reduce them in value. If you're lucky you might get £140 for a used card (depending on age, warranty. accessories etc).

Whatever - it's his money and he is free to hold preferences and choose how to spend his own money accordingly. :)

I don't believe you are the op, also, the whole "snip" thing is for long posts that would look messy if quoted, it doesn't seem like you know how to use it.

As for the rest of your post? The op is free to do whatever he wants, and so am I, see how that works?

The point is that it doesn't pay anyone but nVidia to have an nVidia preference at the moment, for anyone wanting a new graphics card.

You willingly admit this in other threads, so what's the issue?

Can't imagine the 580 is really struggling with anything at the moment unless you run triple screens, skip this generation and wait for the GK110.

The point is the OP wants to stay with nVidia for a reason. Whether that reason is justifiable in your eyes is not relevant as this is his thread. If you disagree with his own preference then don't post.

To answer the OP now I've finished with that matter: if you are willing to sell your 580 then it is better to sell it sooner rather than later as its value decreases. However, as others have said with the games you play you're not going to see any real benefit. Unless any other games you play are struggling I would honestly leave it and save your money for the next generation which will probably be around 6-12 months away at a guess.

+1

My 580's are still playing lovely so im going to wait for the next gen :)

If your GTX580 is playing fine Roughneck, then maybe just wait.

Spoffle, you're coming across as a little hostile in your comments. I don't know if you are, but it seems that way. The OP has asked for some advice and that doesn't need to include jabs about driver inf files, the manufacturer or anything else that isn't relevant. If you've got a suggestion regarding an Nvidia card that the OP can upgrade to then please contribute and let this thread be one of the reasons people like to come on the forums rather than a reason to avoid.

There isn't anything to upgrade to from a GTX580 that's worthwhile at all. Well all know this really, others already had that bit covered.

It's not hostility either, I'm blunt and I might be intolerant of irrational preferences. That's what my whole "inf files" was about, because people who say "I prefer company x's drivers" tend to not actually know what they're talking about.

I wasn't questioning the OP's preference with the intent to go on about an AMD card to get, because that's not even relevant, I tend to question anyone who says they have a preference with no informed opinion to back it up, it just so happens that currently the people who say "I prefer x so only recommend them" tend to be people talking about nVidia.

It's becoming very apparent that some people can't handle bluntness and need posts to be dressed up with sugar, cotton wool, and doughnut cushions, but really people shouldn't be afraid or discouraged from being honest about what they think, and I don't see how it's an issue for me to be honest about what I think about people having irrational preferences.

Let's not forget how written communication often loses tone and intention too, which is made worse by some one pre-empting a tone of a post subconsciously and applying it universally to say, all of my posts.

I agree that the truth needs to always be forefront but at the expense of disrespect or seeming disrespect is something I have a great problem with due to knowing if we were all discussing face to face, the attitude of a lot of people on this forum would change instantly.

There are better ways to explain your stance on things so please try and avoid taking discussions down these paths as you can see, it's not productive or positive at all.

Can we leave this now and let the thread continue?. Have a good day amigo.

I do agree to an extent, however face to face, my attitude wouldn't be any different in terms of what I've said, however the actual person to person interaction is very different, so how what I've said is taken will be different.

It wasn't directed at you. I wasn't being specific about who would or wouldn't be the same. Just a general thing :).

Now I'm hoping the OP will report he is filthy rich and just wants the best Nvidia card. So I can then suggest a 690 rather than saving their money. No fun in that :D.

You'd have to be rich or crazy to get a 690 anyway wouldn't you? 680s and 7970s are badly priced as it is.

As for people being different when they have the security of being behind their computer, I do agree and I have experienced it a lot myself, I've had friends who would act like that, some have grown up since, others not so much.

However, I do get it may be hard to appreciate the intent behind my comments with just the text there in front of you.
