MILLIONAIRE Tory Cabinet minister refers to police as " plebs " - Police fabricate evidence

Sooo people want him sacked for getting shirty about a ridiculous request?
And all this "swore are an officer" ... afaik swearing at a Police Officer is not a crime in and of itself?

The policeman is a pleb. There's also a good chance he is a moron, on the basis that he spontaneously decided to refuse a cyclist passage.

"*******" is a reasonably legitimate word to use when trying to communicate with a pleb who is proving slow on the uptake.

We need more politicians like this :)

Some in here are slow on the uptake;) fact is the gates to downing street are there for security reasons, they allow access to vehicles and not some condescending **** on his bicycle. Was it to much hassle to push his bike through the pedestrian gate? I guess so by his over reaction. Stuck up muppet needs to go, why would I of working class want someone like this fool in government.

People seem to be missing the main issue. It isnt that Mitchell had a row with a policeman, but what he is alleged to have said. If it had been a normal arguement with some bad language, then everyone could move on, but it wasnt. It is alleged he suggested the the police should " Know their place" which is totally insulting and condescending. His apology isnt even an apology. If he views the police as plebs and inferior to him, what does he think of the electorate? He should be fired.

If it makes you feel better after reading the Sun's article I now think the policeman was probably being a bit of a **** and that it was a bit of *** for tat between both of them.

So well done, I've now changed my opinion of the MP doing something wrong to one of they were both being petty and should grow up.

I like how Raven has posted twice to the definition of 'plebs' then goes on to say Mitchell is a "condescending ****" - pot, kettle, black? :D

And why has his wealth been brought into the story?

As others have said, it's a non-story......

Pretty funny that after all the damage that Labour caused the country the only thing the socialists can find to get upset about is a brief disagreement between strangers....

lol @ tory apologists.

Fact is this guy recently got a promotion by big Dave and here he is in public giving abuse that would have a member of public cautioned. I can't see how anyone can condone this behaviour.

You actually condone top tory minister referring to the police and presumably the working class as 'plebs' and giving a whole lot more abuse as well all because it can't ride its bike through the downing street gate lol.

There is a reason it's front page news on every major site, think on.

Lol at Labour straw grabbers....

1) Why is 'millionaire' capitlised?

2) Why does his personal wealth matter at all?

3) What the hell has the tragic news from Manchester got to do with this story?

^^^^ this really

tbh.. I'd be a bit more worried if it was LOW ACHIEVER EX-BIN MAN Cabinet Minister

I'm not that fussed if the people running this country had a successful career before going into politics - this guy is an ex Army Officer then investment banker and then management consultant. I'd be more worried if he wasn't a millionaire after that background as it would indicate either failure or mediocrity in those careers (or at least the last two).

Only relevant part of the article is that he acted like a massive douche bag, lost his temper and is seemingly out of touch - not as a result of his wealth/status but simply as a reflection of his actions/behavior. He should probably resign as having a public tantrum at an police officer who was just doing his job is a silly idea and demonstrates a massive lack of tact and judgement.

My thoughts exactly. Though the first point is rather, why is millionaire even mention, rather than why is it capitalised - that's just how all news stories are written.

Would the police officer be seriously in the **** if he said what is alleged to the minister?
I think so.

Silver spooned and out of touch. Tory toff etc: Not a pleb. A person of some note and so on.
edit: I note he won't come out and say what it is he actually said: only that he was disrespectful. Quite an avoidance regarding specifics lol.

It's not the first time the government's been accused of alluding to the word.

Last year, a government agency released a newsletter highlighting the problem of what it described as People Lacking Everyday Basic Skills.

Once people worked out what the first letters spelled, the scheme was dropped faster than you could say, "The Thick of It".
