Do you like clubbing?

Go out immediately. We are not saying you should drink.

I'm suggesting this for your own good and social well being.

If you are knackered have a red bull or coffee.

Seriously, don't do this to yourself. It's borderline tragic!

I don't see how not going out at night, when I've spent rest of the day at the freshers fair/student union, chatting to my room mates about where they come from, what course they are doing and going around the town/city is boderline tragic.

Sorry I just don't.

I'm really knackered and have a bad headache.

I don't drink so more than half of the appeal has gone already.

I don't mind going to the pub and have gone several times.

However clubbing, I just don't get it.

Sorry guys for letting you down, but I will try to go to the pub tomorrow.

Go! Socialise with your fellow humans! I sometimes feel like I don't want to go out and I didn't even go to uni but I still went to freshers week! Twice!

Report back tomorrow!

You're not letting us down, you're letting yourself down. You're being stupid. Freshers is all about bonding with your flatmates. You aren't doing this. They'll come home, and have lots of stories and fun to tell tomorrow. Not only will you not be able to take part, they won't involve you and it's noones fault but your own.

Why don't you drink?

You don't get it, because you haven't done it. Just go.

Because EVERYONE talks about where they come from and what course they are doing. That doesn't bond you, nor does it make friends with people. It's inane, simple chat people have before they have real friendship. The fun happens at night, and the bonds are established when the fun happens. Not from sitting around watching Bargain Hunt saying "Oh, I'm from Dorset and I'm studying Politics. What about you?".

Because it is probably the night that the bonds between your housemates, and your other people in your halls will be made. When you find out who is who. It'll be worth the effort, honest :)

Also you may pull, thats always a positive :D
Surely now you are getting ready to go out!

Get ready, walk into pre drinks and announce your going out, they will most likely cheer and down the rest of their drinks, hurry you don't have much longer :)

Most definitely. You'll have loads to talk about the next day whether it's good or bad.

I look back on freshers and wondered how I managed it, mind. Made 9am intro talks every day, was drunk every night for about 9 days solid and was drunk through most of the days, too.

By second term making a 9am even when sober was an effort :p

(not a totally lazy student, I got a 2:1 in first year, including half of it being a subject I disliked)

I would imagine the most sold drink in Fabric is water.

Its totally dependant on you and who you are with, if all of you are battered, I'm sure you'll have a good time. However if many in your group are rolling and your the odd one out, I'd imagine you wont enjoy it as much.

Remember people rolling are more annoyed by drunks then drunks are annoyed by people on it.

No no I'd only go if we could all roll together. By rolling, I of course mean the slang term for moving.

You must be quite an intelligent chap to achieve a 2:1 in a degree considering you disliked a lot of the subject.

Seriously you have to go out, we aren't giving you and option. I went out every day for two weeks in freshers last year, by the end of it I was a train wreck, but I met so many people who I see on a regular basis and if you want to go out, there is always someone hosting something. And its true, girls are up for it on freshers, so go socialise and a bit more ;)

We are talking about different things.

I don't condone such behaviour, but have fun if you do go.

First year is a critical qualifier to that. ;) First year is difficult to fail!

I'm not *bad* at the subject (geology, half of my first year of Envi. Geoscience), I just have absolutely zero enthusiasm for looking at rocks through a microscope and defining what they are by what minerals they are made up of, and the like.

During first year, I never missed a single 9am lecture. Not one.

I would go out to somewhere like Thekla. Walk home at 3am, then walk back from STOKE-BISHOP down to biology.

How. The. Hell.

If I go out on a Thursday I'm lucky to make work by Monday these days.

Ha,

Walked into a few lectures last year straight from the club, still got a 1st :D!

Why are you still here? You went to university, to presumably learn things from other people. Listen to the people that have done it before and go out tonight. Sure, you're probably socially awkward and shy. But the best way to address that is just to go out and throw caution to the wind. Have a few drinks, chat to your flatmates (not about university, though it's fine to start there - girls is always a good conversation topic) and have a laugh. Stop being so wet. You will regret this and have a worse university time because of it.

We aren't being anything but helpful and trying to maximise your enjoyment of university. You have to live with these people for the next 6 months or whatever. Do you want to live somewhere where people don't know you, you don't know them and are unable to take part in the fun? If so, carry on with your action. If you want to have a good time then go out and have fun.

Gone out to a club, continued the party in the common room in one of the buildings, and then went to lectures in the morning. With a cup filled with vodka + something else to help with the shakes.

That's incredible. I don't know anyone who managed to make every 9am. I don't think I had single week where I made every lecture after the second one.

Thankfully we had a bus service from SB last year, but dear christ being on a bus rammed full of people swaying about in traffic when you're still half cut did not do you any good.

No 9ams and fridays off this year. HAPPY DAYS :D

I despise clubbing. It's too loud to have anything resembling a conversation, it's always boiling hot and crowded out with drunk people. And it costs actual money to get into these places.

I literally cannot think of anything I would less rather do on a night out than go clubbing. Every time I've been cajoled into it, I've left within 5 minutes and gone home, leaving behind the people I was with. These days, I won't even let myself be cajoled, no matter what they say.

This. Its rubbish.

Its just a competition now to see who can get drunk the quickest! Much happier infront of the TV with a takeaway and a few cans :)
