Would you rather live in a quite nice average size house on your own like a proper grown up that you paid for by yourself, with your wife/kids.

or

In an extremely nice house on many acres, swimming pool, 5 car garage, etc. with your wife/kids, perhaps even a small farm BUT... your MUM lives with you. She would have a separate "granny flat" and would travel most of the year so you might not see her, but you still be living with your mum. Or technically she would live with you.

Your household bills would stay the same for both scenarios.

Many acres + swimming pool wins it, easily. Big houses with swimming pools should be occupied, and it sounds great for your kids. Only if you get on with your mum though.

Can I have the rest of my family living there too? And not even in a granny flat?

Easily this. My mum's an awesome cook and would go nuts with growing food and getting chickens and milk producing beasts, plus I'd be able to get a few more dogs what with all that land :D
Great environment for kids too.

If your mum's a meddling harpy, then no.

Every time. Silly question really.

With the second option, if you're mother is living in a separate building with it's own amenities (bathroom, kitchen etc) then I wouldn't see that as 'living' WITH me, living in close proximity yes.

With mum. As once your parents leave this world, they will never be coming back. They brought you into this world, cared for you in your early years! I love spending time with my Mum.

Where is the option for the extremely nice house of my own?

My Mum wouldn't even have me. They have their own places and stuff. No chance, even if they would allow it, I wouldn't want it. Learn your own way, working your way up through your own levels of achievement. Makes it worth that much more.
