Guild Wars 2

Thanks for the source, o well was gonna try it too as it looks like it makes the game more fun!

Guess we just need to hope Arenanet add in a version of it now instead. :(

What's the PvE content like at 80? I really have no interest PvPing. Is there enough PvE stuff, i.e. dungeons etc to never have to PvP or am i going to find myself very bored repeating the same thing?

Probably not.

It's a grind like wow endgame but smaller scale (5 not 10 man)

It's not too much of a grind to get exotic gear, a couple days farming gold and you can buy a full set of exotic crafted armour/weapons. Dungeon loot is pretty much just the same as crafted, and the different dungeons have the same stats on the items but just different looks, so there isn't much point in doing all of the dungeons.

My opinion is that PvE seems quite neglected, with dungeons not having much point and needing a lot of tweaking for some bits, and the dynamic events which the devs kept making a big deal about don't have much use in the endgame because they don't give much rewards.

Just like DAoC, the focus of GW2 is heavily on PvP.

Just like GW you mean. There's a ton of PVE content, but it's about the journey. End Game PVE is mainly a grind to get unique cosmetic stuff and gear sets to support different specs.

The high end crafted gear is as good as anything you'll get out of grinding a Dungeon lots apart from stat distribution and it's only marginally better than the next tier down which is a fraction of the cost.

(13% if I recall correctly, but diminishing returns).

The dungeons are worh going through in Story mode, and the zones are worth completing for craft materials.

Still, I think there's your moneys worth even if you never PVP - never did in GW1 and it was worth every penny.

I think you will be disappointed if you only want to PVE, took me 2 days grinding to get full exotic BIS gear, after this point it is entirely cosmetic only for all other gear with the exception of a legendary weapon which is a very very small upgrade and will take most people months to get and the hardcore a few weeks.

The game is about PVP and changing your gear on a cosmetic level mostly at "end game". Well that + having fun.

It is a very different type of MMO to the others, not a bad thing but certainly different.

Personal opinion incoming.

I'm hugely disappointed with this game I have to say. When I first logged in and was knocking around level 10, I realised a lot of the stuff they said they'd changed wasn't as true as they'd made out. Questing not being a case of killing 10 things, yeah, now you have to fill up a bar that you have no idea how long it will take. But I still had high hopes, I thought the end game could be good, and I have to say even though the questing was exactly the same just under a different guise, leveling was great fun, and map completion was kinda cool too. Then I got to 80, I farmed trolls for BiS, and realised I'd just killed the game for myself. WvW is absolutely terrible in my opinion, as is sPvP, I guess I wanted some sort of competitive gameplay, and GW2 just doesn't offer that. WvW is all about the zerg and a single player makes no odds unless they're telling the group what to do (And the group listens) and sPvP gear is for that zone only, so no-one can see that you're any good at it.

They went wrong in a few places for me, promising all this change from the traditional MMO, like saying they've taken the grind out of it, there is nothing in this game that isn't a grind, I have never had a drop that was better than any of the gear I have got from grinding either instances or mobs. Legendaries are an absolute farce, anyone that thinks they are going to be Legendary is going to be disappointed in a year when everyone has one. Removing Healer/Tank/DPS was a bad idea for me too, I can understand taking some elements of it out and replacing it with the dodge mechanic, but they've taken it too far without eliminating it completely, why should a Warrior have so much more health than a Thief if the game is that way? (I understand that's a very personal gripe and me being a tad pedantic but whatever). The final point, 10 skills... Is that a joke? How can there be any skill involved in a game you could play on a console.

I think all in all, for spells, I thought I was playing a WoW beater, and I'm slowly coming to the realisation it just won't be that and I wanted it to beat WoW more than it really having any chance. ANet should have stolen everything that was good from WoW, instead of trying to make it "not just another WoW clone".

This is a little bit of a rant just so I can vent, and put all of my thoughts in one place, I'm sure some of this is too strong on things I don't mind and not harsh enough of things I've forgotten, but still, I'm just disappointed.

the only point I will comment on is the above (the rest as you've rightly said is all personal opinion) but how does having 10 (not including weapon swapping or the Ele class) skills make this a 'non skilled console game'? To use your goto reference game, WoW and its 40 skills, 36 of which you will use once every few hours, is more skill based'? Combat in WoW feels so static to me opposed to, imo, a very fluid and dynamic combat system in GW2, part of which is due to the removal of the trinity.

Monkey00 if you think 10 skills (which is not true since you can swap weapons/attunements/kits, and if you don't swap then maybe that's why you dislike the game as you are not playing it right) requires no skill, please go ahead and play sPvP against some good players and let me know how it turns out.

You also said there is nothing in this game which isn't a grind, yet my entire leveling process was without grinding (although it still wasn't as fun as leveling in SWTOR). Once you are 80 there is bit of a grind for gear but it's expected to take a bit of effort to get some gear.
