I've used the windowed shinobi here. It has 2 fans fitted, the one uncle petey used only comes with one and doesnt have the window obviously. The Coolermaster case only has a single USB3 port the shinobi has 2 USB3 and 2 USB2 ports. If you want the coolermaster case that's cool though.

Switched the GPU to the 660, I discussed the GPUs earlier. As you said you weren't bothered about Xfire/SLI I dropped the mobo spec too. You might have noticed I'm using a faster optical drive than in the other specs too.

Hope this helps, again I look forward to seeing what you settle on. Please remember the weekly offers change tomorrow, so our specs might need tweaking to make the most of the offers once they come into effect :)

Y U PICK ON ME!? :D

Just kidding. In all honesty, as a Shinobi owner I have to say that the included fan is pretty weak and since airflow from the front of the case is fairly restrictive, having another one included won't make much difference imo.
They're only half decent for exhaust purposes. As an intake fan, they're meh at best :)

I'd probably go back and change the case in my spec for something with a front mesh.

Are you overclocking?
If not there's a lot of parts being spec'ed that could be considered redundant.

I mean, consider an i5 3450 as the CPU, with the retail cooler, lower end boards, gives you an option for a better GPU such as a 670/7970 etc.

Not picking on you at all bud but you can move the fans ;)

I thought his son might like the window that's all, no harm in offering suggestions. If he doesnt like the window your version was a good shout as it is currently on offer. Stulids fractal case is nice too :)

I've already dicussed the RAM, the XMS3 RAM is good too, no harm in using that either. The samsung SSD has already been suggested several times as it is good but it is slightly more, the Intel SSD isn't exactly crap but im not going to fight to keep it in the spec.

My last build is under £830 so he could use the Samsung SSD and buy the faster RAM if the budget is flexible. Yes I used an eco storage drive, he can use a faster drive for storage if he really wants to. There is a 7200RPM 2TB drive on offer which isn't much more.

As I keep saying I look forward to seeing what the OP specs. He has had plenty of decent suggestions for components with explanations to help him balance out the budget himself. I thought he was heading down to OCuk at the weekend so the offers will have changed by then, so these specs will be "invalid". So there is no real point arguing the finer details now, I think the OPs big question is i5K or i7K. Overclocking is dead easy to do, the BIOS will have an auto option but doing it manually isn't hard to be fair.

I think for his stated purpose and rough budget the Z77, IB i5K overclocked and the 660 GPU (2GB VRAM) offer the best bang for buck. We argue out the spec once the offers kick in tomorrow and we know what the OP wants :)

The Intel Core i5-3570K 3.40GHz (Ivybridge) Socket LGA1155 Processor (77W) - Retail
and the Gigabyte Z77-D3H Intel Z77 (Socket 1155) DDR3 Motherboard I think will be a definite.
Will wait until the offers change tomorrow then decide on the rest, if not suitable then will look deeper from those already suggested, plenty of USB ports would be good, as for the case, just one that does the job, probably good air flow more then anything else. The MSI GeForce GTX 660 OC Twin Frozr 2048MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card seems to be a very popular suggestion so may well go with this. I may be able to drive to pick parts up, I live in Staffordshire which would make things easier for me. My main focus is on the Cpu,mobo and GFX everything else should be relatively cheap to upgrade in time and if needed.
I have learned more on this thread then scouring the net for days on end!!!

Not that close I'm afraid prob about a 30 min drive, delivery would be a prob as I'm working all day, if all else fails will go when back on nights in a week and a half. Knowing him it will have to be new LOL, but he may change his mind once we are there :P

Do not go with the Ocuk PSU, we have all given you quality branded PSU with our builds, pick one of those.

Fair enough will make sure it's one that's recommended

Skimping on the PSU is always a bad idea. The antec is good, the OCZ ZT we have also suggested is fully modular, the antec is semi modular. Because you dont have excess cables in the case it improves airflow.

Pretty much bang on £800 as you dont need delivery it seems. The Intel SSD I suggested before is now on offer and could save you £10, you could get the 180GB version which is priced close to the samsung. There is the KFA2 660 which is also £10 cheaper but it only has 2 years warranty the MSI has 3 years.

Hope this helps with the new offers now in play.
