Dropped Samsung S3 screen colors mixed

Dropped my S3 about two feet onto the pavement. Now all the screen colours are purple/blue and there's a massive blue/black blob on the top left hand corner. Called three and they said I have to take it to the three store for repairs and as the screen is top end it will cost £80 for repair! When I got the phone 3 weeks ago my first thoughts were its a bit flimsy, even with a rubber case it got damaged so badly

Has anyone had experience with three for something like this? How quick are they at repairing? As it's not covered under warranty if they couldn't repair it would I have to pay for a new phone!?

Don't know about 3 but £80 seems cheap. Sounds like the LCD has ruptured and the cheapest I've seen those is about £150.

The LCD is behind the gorilla glass, how could it have got ruptured by a fall?

I was getting out of the car, the phone was on my lap and forgot about it, so that's about 2 feet right?

Get a leather case.

This is the one I have. It protects the screen unlike most other rubber cases that leave it exposed. The best protection for your phone is common-sense and deep pockets. The last time I dropped a phone was around five years ago.

No don't agree with you there. That can happen to any LCD screen whatever it's in, it's just the way it falls and the impact in the wrong place. I would guess you were quite unlucky.

I think some samsung phones have LED screens as opposed to LCD screens, but even so I would expect a 2ft drop to be ok...

I've dropped my phone from twice that height, and even though it's in a case, the screen has been fine.

I don't think that's a hole, it's the wrong side anyway.

The damage done from dropping a phone really is random. You might get lucky and drop your phone from a decent height and have no damage, but then you may drop it a different time from far lower and smash the screen. It's not something you can repeatably compare, at all.

Got my phone back, they fixed it for free

WIN. Still got the same IMEI number so it looks like they replaced the LCD and bluecover

I didn't do anything. Just sent it off for repair telling the girl at the three store the screen wont come on. She had a look raised a repair call and off it went. Monitored the My Three repair tracker and it said:

Service chosen: Retail repair
Charge type : Manufacturer Warranty

I've got a Case Mate Tough Case on my S2 and I always do my best to look after my phone. However on the odd times I have dropped it onto hard tiled floors it hasn't damaged the phone at all.
