hiya,

i recently posted a topic asking for help on choosing a graphics card (over in the graphics section) and thanks to the replies i'm buying this card tommorow: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-148-MS&groupid=701&catid=56&subcat=1673

But my current PC has a 460w PSU. Here is my PC's specs: http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsuppor...portFAQ&prodSeriesId=5035344&prodTypeId=12454

My budget is around £100 for a new PSU. I'll only need it to last me 5-6 years so no need to future-proof since i'll hopefully have learnt more about hardware and can build a nice high-budget gaming rig by then.

So could anyone recommend a suitable PSU to run my new card and pc?

It's not as quiet at high load compared some of the other PSU's out there, but you have to pay for that. Its decent though...you wont be disappointed.

I recently got one of these: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CA-000-XF&groupid=701&catid=123&subcat=1497
Same price as the Corsair, semi-modular, Silver rated, very quiet and it's a Seasonic inside. I don't hear it at all under light use and while gaming or rendering it's whisper quiet too. Obviously you don't need 850W with your current system, neither do I but with it being on sale at such a silly price I couldn't resist and it's always nice to have plenty of headroom and power to spare for future upgrades and additions.

thanks for all the replies! if i had to choose one out of them all, say balancing silence with some headroom power, efficiency and low price would that narrow it down to any particular one?

edit: yeah i only want to use one GPU with my PC so maybe i dont need much power but a little headroom can't hurt. if that helps

The NZXT Hale82, PC Power+cooling Silencer MKIII and that Antec HCG M 620 are all Seasonic internals and thus great.

definitely will consider that since it sounds really good

edit: since it's 560w would that be enough for my pc and graphics card? cause the gfx card im buying is overclocked: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-148-MS&groupid=701&catid=56&subcat=1673

It will be more than enough. It could probably do 700w before shutting down. One thing I've learn don't just look at wattage when looking for a power supply. Some cheap power supplies advertised as 750w etc can barely supply 300-400w without starting to ripple.

All of the power supplies listed above will be fine for your build.

Perfect, then it's decided. Going for the one you recommended http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CA-180-AN&groupid=701&catid=123&subcat=1088

Really appreciate the help! Thanks all!

How can you say that when JonnyGuru said this about the X-560:

Performance - and now to do some scoring. Folks, this may be the best X series unit I've tested yet. Voltage readings so solid you couldn't budge them with a Peterbilt. Ripple results so low an ant couldn't trip over the waveforms. And to top it all off, you have that Gold level efficiency, a fan that turns off when not needed, and complete indifference to high temperatures. I have to do a 10 here.
