2) Don't over pay for a player just because he has the right formation for you - more often than not you can buy in a different formation and then pick up a formation modifier card for a few hundred coins!

I'd diasgree with this, especially if the formation you prefer is one of the most popular, like 4-1-2-1-2. Formation cards for that often cost upwards of 5k coins, and it generally only costs a few thousand extra coins to buy the player in the correct formation to start with. The only time it made sense to buy the formation card afterwards was when I bought Mario Gomez for 22k, as he wasn't selling for less than 29k at the time in the correct formation. I paid 4.3k for the formation card, so saved money. If the players you're buying are only worth 5k or less (maybe even less than 10k), I'd say it's always worthwhile to get them in the correct formation from the start.

Can anyone recommend a formation for a Serie A side? I was thinking either 4-3-3 or 4-3-1-2, I don't really like 3-5-2 this year.

I found 4-2-3-1 prety good, and thats with me using it!

Maybe 4-2-2-2 might work? Now Lavezzi has left i don't see many/any Serie A outside midfileders I'd want to use!

Not sure on 4-2-3-1, I've just left that formation and want to give something else a try! Wide midfielders I can see are:

Zuniga
Lulic
Estigarribia
Biabiany
Pepe
Maggio
Cuadrado

So I think there's plenty of choice on wide men, I'm just after something really pacey and fun to use. After coming from the slower but more technical Germans I think I just want to destroy people with pace all over the pitch. Really looking forward to using Zarate, Hernandez and Muriel. :p

Can someone offer some advice on the type of cards to buy on auction house with the intention of selling on for profit? I bought a load of Chelsea home kits the other day and managed to make some from that, but I've got about 4.5k coins now and want to get maybe 1-2 gold players to sell on. I don't really know what to look out for.

I found the best way is to wait until "off peak" times (was ridiculous yesterday when the Champions League matches were on, nobody seemed to be buying anything) and then re-sell at a better time of day, or at weekends.

Also, for some easy profit buy any gold players for 300, or rare gold players for 600. Stick them up on the auction for an hour with these set as minimum prices. If nobody buys them, you can quick sell them and not lose any coins. You won't make loads doing this (50-100 per player, usually), but it's a really easy way to get a little boost.

Slow Germans? Sidney Sam, Blazyz-whatever, Reus all have over 90 pace. Elia has 91 I think, and Schurrle has 88. Not exactly slow!

I'm busy building a cheap Italian team. No more than 500 gold a player. Bagged Iaquinta up front for 400, and he's banging them in for me!

I'm going to challenge the team of the week tonight to bag my free gold pack. I'll get hammered, but it'll (hopefully) be worth it.

di vaio was superb for me as well - got him for 350.:p

It was a German national side so Blaszczykowski and Elia don't make the cut. Podolski was my LAM and Reus was my RAM so I wasn't lacking in pace on the flanks, there's no way Schurrle or Sam would oust either of those from my line up though admittedly Shurrle is pretty impressive. I'm talking about power through the middle though, Schweinsteiger and Kroos were nullified by any opposition that had midfielders quicker than a snail. Germany don't have a particularly good defence in this either, Badstuber is far too cumbersome, Boateng was seemingly outmuscled constantly, Lahm was a total waste of coins, Neuer palmed most shots into the net and Germany are seriously deficient in left backs.

In hindsight I probably should have made a Bundesliga team instead of a German national side. :p

Any news on team of the week this week, got a few points I want to spend on packs but dont really fancy doing it at the moment. Managed to get myself a decent little team until prices drop. At the moment they are ridiculous. Used to have Gerrard but dont like him and used the sessegnon I got in the pack and he seems pretty decent anyways

To be honest it's difficult to answer this as a lot of it comes down to luck!

My best advice is as follows:

1) Don't impulse buy with 20 seconds left on the auction even if you think it's a good price - invariably you will end up paying more than you can get the same card for on buy it now if you do a search! It's rare that a decent player isn't bid on if it's a good price - even with the time differences all over the world, someone is usually watching!

2) Don't over pay for a player just because he has the right formation for you - more often than not you can buy in a different formation and then pick up a formation modifier card for a few hundred coins!

3) Early in the game I've found it's worth getting mid-tier players in with loads of contracts - that way you aren't spending coins on keeping your players playing quite so often!

In my opinion it's all about learning the approximate values of the more recognisable players and snapping them up if you see them pop up at a good price!

Oh, and in case anyone didn't know, there is a free gold pack that is easily earned in game just by completing the manager tasks! - I didn't know about this until today - if there are any more easy one's in the game, feel free to let me know! :)

I know a lot of this is very basic but if anyone is new to the game they may not know!

Just my 2p's worth! ;)

Thanks for the advice Stevie.

Ah, I get you. Yeah, if you're using Kroos then you shouldn't bother chasing anyone with him, ever. Lack of speed is why I stopped using Van Der Vaart and went back to Muller instead (and Gotze would be a good alternative, 80-odd pace). Your comments about Lahm and Neuer are making me glad I haven't bothered buying either of them for my Bundesliga team. Wiedenfeller (the Dortmund keeper) is performing absolute heroics for me, despite only being rated 82. Never had a keeper play as well as he has.

Currently rocking:

Torres
Hazard - Navas
Young - Tiote - Essien - Sanchez
M'Bia - Pique - Pepe
Lopez

Works really well. Saving up for Bale to replace Young as he just seems like a more solid choice.

Looking to make a second team that is strong enough for Div 1 + 2 online. My current second team is, while nice to play, just not quite strong enough. Going to go for a Serie A/BPL hybrid so I can keep Sturridge and Ramires as they're both pretty awesome. Looking to do something like this:

Jovetic
Robinho - Sturridge
Elia - Cambiasso (?) - Ramires - Johnson (?)
Chielleni - Lucio - Luiz
???

Not sure on Jovetic, Cambiasso, and Johnson, nor the GK. I don't really have an idea about those positions. Cambiasso was great for me last year, Johnson is good but not sure if it's worth putting in Walcott for the extra pace (LM/RM only really need to be quick) and not sure about the keeper.

Finesse Shots are now 100% useless. ;o

I actually disagree, I find that they are useful in some circumstances, very close-range, sweeping it around the keeper, spin shots - they're just not what they used to be, overpowered curling shots. In 11 they were ridiculous, finessing shots into the goal outside the box facing the wrong direction, in 12 they were toned down, and now they are for specific moments rather than a 'win-all' button.

Yeah I definitely wouldn't recommend Neuer, I had Wiese before him and he did the job just fine too. Lahm I just don't understand the point of, he's not fast, he's not strong, he's not good in the air, he's just lacking all the qualities that make a good fullback in FIFA. In real life he's obviously a complete legend but he doesn't translate to this game very well.

At least I can get most of my coins back from my team, I've just started making a disgustingly quick Serie A team, Chiellini, Gamberini and Abate in a back three... :D

Kill Robert linked to a good serie a side a few pages bAck. I borrowed from it he suggested good lm & rm goivinco was on the lm I think real pace abuse! With cavanna and denatile up front.

Excuse the spelling on my phone at work. I'll link my team if you want when I get home

Fair point, I've generally gone for 352 and the formation cards have never been more than 250-350 so I've quite often saved 1-2k buying a random formation player compared to the cheapest 352 and then applied the formation card! Like you say, I guess it depends on the formation you like!

Thanks for the advice Stevie.

You are welcome! I dare say more experienced traders can give you better advice but this is how I tend to do it! (oh, and don't forget to take into account the 5% charge that EA make on sales (I assume it's the same this year?? - I didn't realise this for half of my UT experience last year and wasn't making nearly as much as I'd thought on some trades!!)

Hi Chaps

I often play on line with Chelsea, does anyone have any recontamination of a decent formation to play?

Thanks :)

Sam

For Chelsea, I'd probably be looking at something midfield heavy.

4-5-1 or 3-5-2, if you're confident with 3 at the back.

Luiz-Terry-Ivanovic would be pretty damn good.
