nvidia or amd card?

Hope you get it sorted asap, I still haven't got my new rig setup yet, shocking I know! I'm just braiding my new Haf X case, can't stand bare wires on anything lol.

I'll have it done very soon and get clocking.

Thx, gonna open up a build log at weekend so you can see how it goes! Got a few goodies coming tomorrow!!

Some do some dont, nothing in it really, and price, likewise now, so basically pick your favourite team.

Although 680 lightning is £65 more, but other custom pcb's are available for less.

See what you mean, the evga 680 signature two is only £20 more now that the 7970 lightning has gone back up after being on promo.

After all this fiasco with Nvidia giving it the big one about not covering warranty with overvolting, wish I had now bought the MSI 7970 Lightning instead of the GTX 680 Lightning.

1208 on a lightning = poor, must have been a faulty card, 1350/1950 here and I know stonerdude is around the same speed as me too.

Edit: The 7970 Lightning price is VERY low for retail at the moment, a few months ago it was £450...

Thats why I've taken a fresh look at amd. I had ruled them out up to now but the nvidia voltage issue plus the pricing when they're on offer make 'em quite attractive. I say quite cos theres always room for 'em to come down more.

Thing is though from what i have read, if you wanna max both cards, nvidia voltage capped, so air is fine, amd can use water and gain more hz but afterburner maxes at 1.35v unless you can miraculously get the extreme version. So your limited either way. Must be a little more fun though with the 7970 being able to push it that little bit further

Its 1.35v afterburner, 1.362v actual ;)

But yeah, its going to take some crafty work to get that unlocked version of afterburner for higher voltages, all I want for xmas is 1.4v on my Lightning :(

You should ask that Svet on the MSI forums, he's a Moderator on there and also a computer wizard with motherboard and graphics card BIOS!! ;)

Their is also a guy called CrazyNutz on the extreme systems forum, unlocking voltages for Nvidia graphics card BIOS! Any brand card lol

I'll take a look into that cheers nelly :)

If I go the official route I need to be a proven overclocking with sub amb temps and sign away my warranty out of fear I'll cram 1.8v through it :p

Yeah, I read about that, kinda sad they take away the warranty.

The guy on xtreme, he can alter power limits, change default fan settings, default voltages.

Ahh looks like he's just doing it for the Nvidia 660 cards >> http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showthread.php?282713-GTX-660ti-Owners-Club/page2

Well I just took the plunge and ordered 2x XFX 7950s for £408 (£400 after cashback and hopefully £370 after selling the free games). Hoping I got a good deal, will either keep both cards or sell one if I don't see a decent gain with xfire. :)

Considering GTX 680s are still £370-400 I think it's a pretty decent price for xfire...

Dont think thats true.

First card I had was Nvidia and kept having driver problems.
My 6850 has never had an issue.
